To avoid flying entirely during pregnancy?

It's coming up to our anniversary, and it will be 16 weeks by the time we fly. We haven't booked anything yet.

We always go away every year at this time and it feels a nice break and change of scene as our last break before the baby is born, but feeling very anxious given it will be away from the local hospital and midwives and general home. Worried about risk of local food issues etc. Also the risk of miscarriage... (had one before)

AIBU to be tempted to entirely decide not to fly at all even though generally pregnant people do fly without issues?

Don’t fly if you don’t want to but it is perfectly safe to do so.

I flew at 8 weeks, was ok but felt nauseous because of a smelly guy sitting in front of me). Flew again at 12 weeks, was difficult because of morning sickness and think I picked up a sickness bug on return plane/in airport cause was ill 2 days later. Also flew 17 weeks and had no problems. All within Europe. Had no problems with the food or anything, just made sensible choices from the menus and made sure I bought lots of snacks for during the days. I was more tired than usual so did less activities/visits than we normally good but was nice to relax. I'm due December and won't be flying again now. Maybe a little weekend somewhere in October but won't be far from home.

I flew to Stockholm and back at 17 weeks pregnant with twins (18 weeks on the way back). No issues at all, although I did swell quite badly on the way back. Otherwise it was wonderful :)

Most recently I flew to Thailand at 27 weeks. It was fine. Not very comfortable, but flying economy long haul is never comfortable. I just made sure I drank lots of water, kept moving and I wore compression stockings. I would have been comfortable going to hospitals in Thailand, as they have great private hospitals.

But I also flew long haul at 11, and then 15 weeks in a different pregnancy, no problems!

Just make sure you have good travel insurances.

I flew a few times when pregnant and was totally fine. Took mat notes with me in case of any serious problems.

aslong as you're travelling to a country with good standard of healthcare I don't think it's risky at all.
That said I actually skied when pregnant which many people wouldn't.

But I don't think it's unreasonable at all to not want to go too far away from home when pregnant.

We booked a week in France by boat and had to cancel when we realised Brittany Ferries don't allow you beyond 32 (I think) weeks. Went to Dorset instead and had a lovely time. I don't think there are any restrictions on using Eurostar but you're best checking. And just make sure you have pregnancy covered through your travel insurance if you do go. Personally I'd probably avoid travelling around the beginning of November too for obvious reasons.
