Cleaner etiquette

Hi everyone,

We've recently discussed with a cleaner and she'll do her first clean in a few days (wohoo!). We never had a cleaner before, but we decided we'll have ours over twice a month.

How am I supposed to prep the house for her? It will obviously be tidy, no objects randomly lying around, no dishes, etc. I wonder if she'll do the beds herself or if I need to change them before.

What else do we need to do? Any tips?

That's crazy OP for a 2 bed! Unless she is doing laundry and additional jobs too? Ours is a big 8 bed and we have ours for 4 hours (although a few rooms are only cleaned every month or so).

Can't imagine how she can take 5 hours.

Windows we only do every few months. I had no idea people cleaned their windows weekly.

Perhaps we are just slobs Grin

Cleaner once a week for 3 hours, 3 bedroom house with two reception rooms, 1 bathroom, smallish kitchen. Cleans and hoovers all floors, changes bed linen, cleans kitchen and bathroom. Our cleaning supplies. If she doesn't change bed linen then wipes all woodwork (doors, balustrades on stairs etc.

@LaBelleSauvage oh definitely not! She ll clean them the first time and them probably once every 1.5 months or so! But now they really could do with a big cleanGrin

Mine does the same as @Georgiemcgeorgeface. She does wash up if there is anything that needs doing. Despite me telling her she doesn't have too. She's an absolute gem and buys my cats treats at Christmas. It's the best feeling ever coming home to a tidy house!

If you’re going to agree a price per clean you really need to agree what a clean involves. I would probably divide this into weekly tasks and quarterly tasks. So weekly would be kitchen, bathrooms, dusting, mop/hoovering, changing beds. Quarterly would be the inside of windows, kitchen cupboards etc.

My cleaner changes my bed. I love when shes been. House is sparkling and the bed is made beautifully with nice clean sheets. Its worth paying just for that 🤭

NoSauce · 25/08/2019 16:50

@NoSauce do I have to tell her to move stuff not just to wipe around

My old cleaner would around lamps, ornaments and anything on the side and not move anything on the floor like the bin in the loo etc which was a pest but my current cleaner moves everything and gives the worktops and floors a proper clean.

proseccoaficionado · 25/08/2019 16:53

Hhhhhh is it normal to be so excited about getting a cleaner?Grin

I never ask my cleaner to clean the toilet - nobody should be required to wipe up someone else’s pee and poop in order to earn money. The window cleaner sorts the windows inside and out. I change the beds. The cleaner hoovers and mops floors, dusts , hoovers the sofas , plumps and generally makes the house look gorgeous. The oven gets done by a specialist company when required and I do my own fridge. So before the cleaner arrives I make all the beds and have a quick tidy up .

proseccoaficionado · 25/08/2019 16:55

@HerkyBaby fair enough re toilet, I haven't considered that. I'll tidy up, do the beds and the toilet. Thank you
