To think that the Danish prime minister was too quick to refuse to sell Greenland?

I mean, obviously she was never going to sell it, I'm not sure it would even be possible without some sort of referendum of Greenlanders, but she could at least have asked a load of probing questions first. Was Trump planning to make all the Greenlanders into American citizens, or just the white ones? Does he even know that it's populated, or does he think it's just a vast emptiness? Was he planning to add Greenlandic or Danish to the official languages of America or just make them all learn enough English to do their taxes and be able to read an official letter confiscating their homes and lands? Was he going to make it another state like Alaska and Hawaii, or just own it but not give the people any representation in government like Puerto Rico and Guam? Did his advisors suggest he ask to buy it, or was it just a whim, like fancying an iced doughnut or a new wife?

Maybe Putin could consider buying the USA?

I bet Putin wishes the Russians had held onto Alaska.

I bet there's a whole swathe of middle America that would have instant heart attacks if they suddenly discovered they'd been sold and were now Russian citizens.

I’m sure they would americano. But if I had the choice I’d rather like to see the reaction of a certain demographic upon being informed their states had been sold to Mexico and they were now South American citizens.

JingsMahBucket · 25/08/2019 15:38

@TrainspottingWelsh Mexico is in North America.

I think she should have humoured him, and said he couldn't buy Greenland, but he could have Narnia, or that they'd just found the lost city of Alantis, maybe he'd like that instead?

I bet he would have fallen for it.

Trump answering all these questions: “My brain is bigly and I make all the best deals in the world, anywhere ever” Grin

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/08/2019 15:58

jings I know, I was thinking more of the reaction of the type of Trump voter that bought into the idea Mexicans were diseased rapists. Along with any other South American immigrant, or anyone of even the vaguest Hispanic ethnicity. As in not a citizen of the USA, which to that level of intelligence is North America.

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/08/2019 15:59

Narnia Grin

Well I wouldn’t sell mine or my children's’ British Citizenship to become a US citizen for one million or two million or really any figure, similarity to you @S1naidSucks but I feel that I’m in a privileged minority.

If you were living on one minimum wage income and were desperate for money to feed your children, you would probably think differently.

Kpo58 · 25/08/2019 16:41

I wonder what Greenlanders would have really thought if there was an election on whether or not to sell the country (not necessarily to the USA) if another one was going to invest heavily in it.

Currently there is high rate of suicide, alcoholism and unemployment there, so maybe they would want a new start away from Denmark.

Hefzi · 25/08/2019 16:51

I believe that quite a lot of Greenlanders are keen on independence from Denmark, which is why they've been enthusiastic about Chinese finance to "help" them exploit various natural resources - so I wouldn't be too sure they'd reject Trump out of hand Grin
