To expect to have the procedure I went in for and the same advice from two drs?

Firstly- this is not an NHS bashing thread. I am hugely grateful for our NHS and appreciate all that the wonderful people who work in it do particularly when they are battling against being so under resourced.

I've been having horrible gynae issues for the last year. Bleeding has been constant and very heavy and has made leaving the house difficult on many days. Not ideal with two young children and when working full time.

Two issues that have really worried me in the last two days.

Firstly. I had been told by one registrar, and also had it confirmed in writing via email from her, that the regime of norethisterone tablets I have been taking would also act as an effective method of contraceptive in the way I am taking them. Been taking them and relying on them as contraceptive since April. I was told yesterday by a different gynae dr that I should be using a condom/hormonal contraceptive in addition to taking the norethisterone as it is NOT a contraceptive 🤯

Secondly. I arrived for my operative hysteroscopy- first dr had told me that's what she was referring for. I'd also had confirmation from the clinic bookers who had also sent me a patient info leaflet for an operative hysteroscopy where my fibroids and polyps would be removed. Went in for my appt and the dr told me that she would not be removing anything and that she would be doing an exploratory hysteroscopy with a biopsy.

I don't understand how the information I get as a patient can be so different and how I can arrive being told I'm having one thing, then having something different.

Sorry- think I'm just venting disappointment and frustrations. Was so hoping this appointment would put an end to the months of evil discomfort and bleeding as I'd been promised.

This is one of my bugbears too OP. I had a high-risk pregnancy so saw a consultant weekly at the end and I got different info from each one.

At my 38week check my BP was very high. The doctor admitted me and told me I’d be having my baby shortly by ELCS. Then after I’d called DH etc to get him to hospital, I was told it would be the next day as they wanted to give me meds and steroids. Then someone else said no meds required. Then the next day the consultant cane and said no CS, book in following week and I shouldn’t have been admitted.

If I hadn’t been so unwell I’d have been really pissed off.

My baby was breech too and two doctors told me within hours of each other totally conflicting things about a possible ECV. Utterly infuriating.

@Merryoldgoat that is awful! I think things are more difficult now as it's impossible to get one person to follow and oversee your case. But like you the thing that worries me most if that people within the same field have such differing opinions as to the best course of treatment. It's frightening really!

Oh yeah, that was the other thing. They have me a leaflet about having an ELCS and it said on there to specifically NOT SHAVE.

During the admission time the lead midwife asked if I had a shave and I said no, she said ‘weren’t you told to neaten up your bikini line?’ So I showed her the leaflet issued by the fucking hospital saying not to.

‘Oooh! I’ve not seen that leaflet before!’

Ffs 🙄

Hi OP

I work in NHS and with regards to letters, by the time they're dictated and then typed and then sent out it can take weeks from the doctor dictating the letter to you getting it.
Also if there was something serious going on they would contact you directly.
Sorry your having such a tough time

Howaboutthisone · 01/09/2019 08:34

That's crazy @Merryoldgoat

@Starshapeddreams thank you for replying and for clarifying that.

DS is fine thanks @Merryoldgoat

To be honest this is the reason I pay to see and obgyn privately. Continuity of care.

Howaboutthisone · 01/09/2019 09:17

It's making me wish I had invested in private health care. The cost now for the consult and ops without it are crazy. It is something I've looked into.

I'm glad he's ok.
