Fireworks...in August

AIBU to inwardly hate whichever of my neighbours is setting off fireworks at this time of night, when it's NOT bonfire night?! (Yes I'm grumpy because I'm worried they'll wake my 6 month old who's suddenly decided to be a nightmare to settle at night).

But seriously, it's a residential area, and it's August?!

It’s a tad late in the night really. I’d say 10 was about ok. I do like fireworks so the fact it’s august wouldn’t bother me

We've just been on holiday to Bournemouth and they have them every Friday in the summer, they were very loud! Then we came home and our sleepy little town has decided that the bank holiday is the ideal time to have annual fire works so I am on night two. My dogs are so stressed out it's unbelievable.

Rockbird · 24/08/2019 22:36

We've got fireworks here too. No idea why.

rabbitsarefluffy · 24/08/2019 22:37

Fireworks here too. No idea why!

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2019 22:38

Fireworks aren't just for bonfire night though are they?

Diwali
New Year's Eve
Weddings
Community events
Chinese new year

Loads of different uses now.

PositiveVibez · 24/08/2019 22:38

Yanbu. Selfish and a bit twattish.

tmh88 · 24/08/2019 22:39

Yes we’ve got fireworks here! Wonder whyHmm

strongandlong · 24/08/2019 22:39

My 10yo has been woken up Hmm

I assumed they were for Pride...

ljbrad · 24/08/2019 22:41

Welcome to Edinburgh :p we have a massive display every night of the summer... And twice on a Saturday

Malvinaa81 · 24/08/2019 22:44

Friends live in an area where Indian and Pakistani Independence Days are celebrated with many very loud fireworks- though both these are a bit before 24th August.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2019 22:50

They've been just about every weekend here during the Summer but there's a big wedding venue not far away, that's very popular with Asian couples and fireworks are very popular at Asian weddings.

SamBeckett · 24/08/2019 22:53

Depending on where you are it is Pride this weekend , so it could be them . Or a big concert .

Bamaluz · 24/08/2019 22:57

There have been fireworks for the Pride festival here tonight, they were very loud!

Timandra · 24/08/2019 23:01

We've just had to cut short an evening round a firepit in a friend's garden because there's a festival at a close-by stately home and they've had a big fireworks display.

We usually sedate our dog if we're expecting fireworks but we took our eye off the ball this evening so we'll have a couple of hours of stress now until the sedative calms her down properly.

NannyR · 24/08/2019 23:03

Fireworks are an almost nightly occurrence here, quite often during the day too. I've just heard some go off as I was reading this post.
I love in a northern city with a large asian population, a lot of the fireworks are for Asian weddings. I've also heard that the ones in the daytime are something to do with drug deals but that could possibly be an urban myth.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2019 23:11

Yes I think the drugs thing is an urban myth NannyR. I reckon most dealers just text people or update their fake social media accounts when they've picked up, rather than set a firework off.

NannyR · 24/08/2019 23:22

Yes worra, fireworks are not the most discreet way of conducting a deal when you think about itGrin

NiniTheMouse · 25/08/2019 00:05

Inward hate is fine, but the law gives them until 11pm on normal nights (later on a few special occasions)
