AIBU to not want to take medication for a cold?

I have the beginnings of cold/flu and feeling exhausted to my bones and have a foggy clogged up head. Having said that, I am feeling ok if I just take it easy.

DH is saying I should just take some ibuprofen and get up and get on with it. We have 2 young kids but no real plans for today.

AIBU to not want to take medicine just for a cold? I do take painkillers when I’m in pain, but this is just discomfort, so it feels wrong somehow. It does mean we might get less out of today as a family as I will be lounging around sniffling, which I get is annoying. I just hate the thought of drugging myself unnecessarily. AIBU?

Paracetamol would be more appropriate than ibuprofen, but yes take some. Also buy some fresh lemons and have a hot lemon drink with a large teaspoon of honey in it. Two of these for the next couple of days and you will knock this gold on the head. It’s an old fashioned remedy but it works!

Martyr

If there is a safe, tested and non-addictive drug which will help you feel better why wouldn't you take it??

Cannot stand people who think it's in some way virtuous not to take medication. There are no medals handed out for suffering through a cold without a single paracetamol.

I really don’t think it’s a martyr thing. I don’t have any actual pain, just grogginess and clogginess. Anyway I feel a million times better now compared to when I woke up.

Will try some lemon and honey and maybe a paracetamol, thanks.

Your husband is only BU because paracetamol would be more helpful than ibuprofen.
