Would you have a problem with this poster being shown at the front entrance to a shopping centre?

No. I probably wouldn't give it a second thought tbh.

RJonezy · 23/08/2019 23:38

With kids... probably yeah. If it was big enough to catch my attention though. I see what you mean...

demelza82 · 23/08/2019 23:43

It's a horrible poster and not appropriate for a shopping centre I feel but I was listening ti the Mark Kermode review earlier and bizarrely the film is aimed at young teens - it's a 15 here but a PG 13 in the US. Apparently the book it's based on is for young teens

bionicnemonic · 23/08/2019 23:45

I think it could upset a younger child and at least make them ask lots of questions which may be difficult to answer

Ginnymweasley · 23/08/2019 23:46

It looks like a good film although I have read its not as scary as they are making it out to be. I doubt I would notice it in a shopping centre tbh.

Sparklesocks · 23/08/2019 23:48

Not personally, but I suppose it depends on the person/child?

Moominfan · 23/08/2019 23:49

No I'm more worried about the amount of sugar in fruit shoots. Pick your battles and all that

ScreamingValenta · 23/08/2019 23:50

No, but over the years I have developed the ability to tune out most advertising material.

Sunshineonleith12 · 23/08/2019 23:58

Thanks. I personally don't like seeing it, or having my children see it. Scary images seem to stick in my head and I hate the thought of my young children seeing it when I feel it should be avoidable.
Just wondered if I was BU to expect some censorship for 15/18 rated film posters.

Mrsmurrayposh · 24/08/2019 00:06

Yes. It would make the people in the shopping centre look relatively lively.

pastaparadise · 24/08/2019 00:11

YANBU - hate those sort of posters and also dont want my young dc seeing them. But then I'm the sort of person who closes my eyes when trailers for scary films come on tv...

Mumtotwo82 · 24/08/2019 00:17

Yes I think it's wrong young kids get forced into seeing posters like this.

tipOver · 24/08/2019 00:54

Lol probably as I might shit myself if it took me by surprise.
Then again I am a massive wimp Grin

LiveInAHidingPlace · 24/08/2019 00:56

There were Goosebumps covers scarier than that.

MorganKitten · 24/08/2019 01:53

No, it’s also based on the children's book series of the same name.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 24/08/2019 01:57

My 5 year old was scared of a poster for Annabelle that she saw at a bus stop. She talked about it for weeks afterwards. I was very glad when they changed it for something else.

YANBU OP.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 24/08/2019 02:11

A few years ago some buses had a large poster on their sides proclaiming ‘Thingy and Somebody Else Make a Porno’*. I channelled my inner Mary Whitehouse every time I saw it. It didn’t help matters when my pre-school and infant children painstakingly spelt out the words.

*i can’t remember the names, and for obvious reasons I’m not going to google it.

Heismyopendoor · 24/08/2019 02:13

That’s horrible. I would not be happy with that.

PurpleHedges · 24/08/2019 02:15

It looks gross. Yanbu.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/08/2019 02:16

I mean it's a scarecrow with a crow on it. Meh. We know the context so it's scary but kids don't.

I do object to all the porny women's representations MUCH more.

Sunshineonleith12 · 24/08/2019 08:56

Thanks for the replies, a bit of a mixed response.
I sent a complaint to the Advertising Standards Agency on the basis I felt it breached their regulation "marketers must ensure that any adverts that do contain frightening or disturbing imagery are not in a medium where they are likely to be seen by children."
For those who see similar posters or ads on buses it's easy to make a complaint here:

I remember one of mine being terrified of Shrek pictures so I’m not sure it’s a serious problem. The poster is just dark. It doesn’t show anything awful and I can’t imagine it doing permanent harm.

Lolwhat · 24/08/2019 14:51

Fixed it for you

It’s literally just a scarecrow, a crow and a stormy sky. There are Disney movies with more disturbing scenes than that. This image could appear in a PG rated film.

It is mildly creepy but it isn’t violent, gory or aggressive. There are no weapons. I don’t think anyone can expect their child never to see a slightly spooky picture for a few seconds.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/08/2019 21:02

This is much worse. Scores of posters without heads/faces for the women. They are just a body. And there are hundreds of these to choose from.

A scarecrow? Why is that scary? A crow? Really intelligent interesting birds.
