To handwash clothes on holiday?

Galaxygirl93 · 23/08/2019 21:15

Week long break coming up to Butlins.

Would like to do some washing there to minimise packing and workload when I get home, it will be myself, partner and 18 month old.

In the event I cannot find/cannot be bothered to go to an onsite launderette, would it be weird to handwash clothes?

Also

For those who approve- what is the best way of doing it? Ie how long to soak, should I use comfort....

We always travel light and I hand wash in the sink using normal liquid soap or sometimes shampoo.

As an aside, when I had three little children I used to keep all their old recently outgrown but still just wearable stuff to take on holiday and throw it away at the end of the holiday. Eg pants, I bought new pairs ,took the old ones away and threw them out as they were worn each day. Not very environmentally friendly but saved my washing machine being on a few times at home.

I usually do some handwashing on holiday, I either pour some detergent in a small container or use handsoap. We're often cycling and don't have that many pairs of cycle shorts and tend to pack light. Most places I've stayed in have had a drying rack or a balcony.

There was a launderette in the bognor butlins a few years ago.

When opening the thread, I presumed you were going to be somewhere hot and somewhere you had restricted luggage because of the plane.

There's no way I'd be faffing about washing clothes - or, more realistically, trying to get something dry - on a week's holiday if I didn't have a machine. Just not worth it, unless there is some exceptional need like a load of clothes covered in sick or something.

I do this sometimes on holiday

I hand wash on every holiday! Thought that was pretty normal.

Don't do laundry on holiday! Get a couple of net washing bags from Lakeland/similar and put your dirty laundry in them as you take it off while away, seperate lights, darks into each bag. Get home pop each bag in the wash as is, the weather's good at the moment get it dried outside, takes no time at all, also why isn't he doing some of the laundry at home? I used to use the above method when I worked away a lot, I'd come home on a Friday afternoon bung one laundry bag in, then do delicates in a smaller bag on timer so it was washed and ready to hang on Saturday morning. Done.

I cba to wash things while away but two tips:

Don’t take extra washing stuff : shampoo does it

Take a few plastic shopping bags, stick the grubby stuff in there, easy to deal with when you get home

If you're at the one in Skeggy there's a big one in the caravan area and there are quite a few in town.

If it's basically clean just rinse it through with travel wash like underwear. Vets. Costumes the odd outfit kinda but I'd leave the rest till home. It won't be that much when you get back I managed do 2 weeks worth for 4 people in about 4 washes! X

Personally I would just bring dirty clothes home with me to wash after the holiday. I would buy new clothes on holiday if absolutely necessary.

It seems like such a waste of time to handwash instead of taking 1 week's worth of clothes and putting them in the washing machine when you get home.

This! Can’t think why so many people would do this for a week away. Just enjoy your holiday and bung it all in the wash when you get home!
