for your recommendations for blogs or websites ( inspirational and practical) for getting fit in middle age, losing weight after 40 and general health for the older lady? There seem to be lots out there written by women in their 20s or 30s and quite frankly as I'm nearly 50 and 4 stone overweight I find I can't relate to them at all !!

Stop reading blogs, just go out and do some exercise :)

Sarahisthatyou · 23/08/2019 18:47

Wow ElleDubloo - YOU should write a book! I am thanks, but I'm also looking for some ideas, motivation, inspiration etc. as making big life style changes isn't easy as most people realise.

Have you tried exercise classes? I went to a body pump class once. Most of the ladies were older (I'm in my 20s). They put me to shame!
I don't think age is necessarily a factor, it's health and fitness. My 58 year old FIL runs marathons, I can't run for a bus.

Friends are following Noom and are having good results. Try it free for 2 weeks and see if it suits you. There are blog entries to read and some personal help you can access.

Abraid2 · 23/08/2019 18:52

I do Bodypump, Balance and Combat and am 55. I’m not the oldest by any means and it’s fun.

Pipandmum · 23/08/2019 18:53

I recommend MyFitnessPal. There’s a community forum on there, and while it isn’t aimed at a particular age group it has a huge population (like mumsnet!). They have blogs and the like. I particularly find ‘success stories’ inspiring. And unlike mumsnet the people on it are unfailingly supportive.
Good luck it’s doable but takes commitment!

Sarahisthatyou · 23/08/2019 18:53

Okay - so ANYONE actually found anything useful online for the health of the perimenopausal woman looking for inspiration!?? Noom sounds interesting but not quite what I'm after on the inspiration front...

Thanks! I do have lots of wisdom Halo

I find the FitBit quite motivating. I mainly use it to count steps, record exercise, and log water and sleep. The app has a community section where people post their achievements, if you like that sort of thing.

Pipandmum · 23/08/2019 18:54

Op forgot to mention it’s a free app.

YouJustDoYou · 23/08/2019 18:55

It's basically, eat as little unhealthy fat as possible, exercise cardio as much as possible.

madcatladyforever · 23/08/2019 18:55

Get a gastric band, it worked for me.

Sarahisthatyou · 23/08/2019 18:56

I play tennis, swim, walk, run -and use Fitness Pal. There are so many health blogs out there, I'm trying to find some that are for older women, shared experience and all that...

Have a look at RH Fitness on Facebook

Lots of hints and tips (its a whole £5/month to sign up) and makes sense.

Thehop · 23/08/2019 18:57

I like following weight watchers and slimming world hashtags on Instagram. They’re great for success stories and you may see a few accounts there to follow?

Sarahisthatyou · 23/08/2019 19:05

Thehop - thanks, didnlt occur to me to try that.

Dominique Sashse is a You Tuber aimed at the older lady although she looks amazing. Recent video for example is Talking Age Management Skin and Body. Another is Tracy Hensel- very motivating and straight talking women who seem to have their stuff together. Maybe they aren't what you are looking for but they are two I can think of who aren't necessarily in the younger demographic you mention. Tracy does a lot of Insta and you tube.

Sontagsleere · 23/08/2019 20:15

Something like these videos from Tracy Hensel might be something to get you started!

I use MyFitnessPal, and as a woman of a similar age to you, @Sarahisthatyou, I found it helpful.

I also found a basic work out routine (with dumbbells) on YouTube - the channel is called HasFit.

Happy to pm with you so we can encourage each other, if that would help.
