I have watched Corrie for the last 20 years but cannot stomach watching it anymore. It is boring, tedious and predictable and everybody on the street has shagged everybody else. They need new writers desperately!

It is like watching paint dry and no way as good as it used to be or AIBU?

I still enjoy it! It gets a bit annoying how many recycled storylines there are, especially annoying is how the writers’ need to tie up loose ends re where characters live means every couple who gets together moves in after a matter of days/weeks.

But along with the predictable storylines, they’re fantastic at writing about really interesting difficult topics in an accessible way. The Peter alcoholism storyline is brilliant and has been running for many years and portrays the issue really realistically. Bethany’s abuse storyline was incredibly well written and acted. The budding Geoff abusing Yasmeen storyline is so well written and acted, subtle foreshadowing for months and now he’s turning into a monster. And as for Phelan, I know loads of people felt it was dragged out too long (and I agree) but his character genuinely frightened me towards the end!

I don’t really think too deeply about how the quality is compared to prior years, it’s a soap not life or death, if I enjoy watching then I’ll keep watching. I love how familiar it is after many years. There will always be complaints from people who prefer how a long running show used to be. Perfectly valid but I don’t think it’s jumped the shark nor do I expect constant innovation and brand new storylines after decades.
