Yes and I have. I also do personal printing at work.

Siameasy · 23/08/2019 07:17

Absolutely
It’s not a shredder it’s confidential waste we have.

Idontwanttotalk · 23/08/2019 07:17

I wouldn't. I have my own shredder. Buy your own - ask for one as a Christmas present.

EleanorReally · 23/08/2019 07:18

so what happens to the Confidential Waste?
surely a person puts it in the machine?

topcat2014 · 23/08/2019 07:19

Yes, but I don't have big volumes to do - and we have a good shredder.

Mind you I could imagine a bigger employer getting a bit annoyed.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 23/08/2019 07:21

It goes in a giant machine operated by the people who take it away. It wouldn't bother me unless it was loads

PooWillyBumBum · 23/08/2019 07:22

I put mine in confidential waste sometimes. I rarely print at work but I often scan (and then put private docs in confidential waste). I’m not shy about it, it’s the norm in my office.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/08/2019 07:23

Not really but come to think of it I will start doing that - my tiny shredder at home takes agea

Teacakeandalatte · 23/08/2019 07:24

I wouldnt. If it was a small amount and you could do it when you had a quiet 5 minutes it would be ok, but in that case why not get your own shredder and do it at home. If it was a large amount it would be too cheeky. If it goes off somewhere there is a bit of a worry that someone might realise you had added yours and you could get in trouble.

BruceAndNosh · 23/08/2019 07:25

Why did I think this thread was about extreme weight loss?

TenPastFugit · 23/08/2019 07:25

All paper waste here goes in the worm bin. It's astonishing how fast they eat paper if it's wet.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/08/2019 07:26

I do now we have boxes that are taken away instead of the office staff doing it on site like we used to do.

The work stuff that goes in our boxes is often security classified so there has to be no chance of it being retrieved before it is destroyed so I have no worries about a few of my old bank statements going in there, the volume is tiny compared with the amount of shredding we do so I don't see a problem with it.

Chilledout11 · 23/08/2019 07:27

I wouldn't have time at work so I bought a little shredder and use it at home. Sometimes i stay late if i need to print and if you have time then why not.

Oysterbabe · 23/08/2019 07:28

I don't but I could take it in and put it in confidential waste. No one would care.

ShippingNews · 23/08/2019 07:28

Buy your own, for heavens sake.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 23/08/2019 07:28

Yes. We also have confidential waste rather than a shredder, and nearly everyone brings paperwork from home to dispose of in the bags.

Fredflintstonethefirst · 23/08/2019 07:33

Surely the confidential waste goes to be shredded by a company that charges, probably by weight. So if everyone adds thier own private documents, that will increase the company's costs. I guess as a one off it would be ok, with permission, but not as a regular event.

RunsForGummyBears · 23/08/2019 07:35

Yes, but our confidential waste bin is never full and we are charged by bag not weight

EvaHarknessRose · 23/08/2019 07:40

No, it would add to NHS costs hugely if everyone did it.

daisychain01 · 23/08/2019 07:44

I wouldn't want my personal documents to go outside my control for fear of someone in the company doing random inspections. It risks being disciplined and not worth it.

Where I used to work there were shredding machines on each floor near the photocopier so I did take the odd few sheets in but not a whole bag of personal papers, that's CFery!

We bought our own shredder for odd sheets, and for a larger amount, we add it to our garden incinerator and it's a quick burn.
