ive only been a member for 3-4 months but ive grasped that people here think that newspapers and magazines are stealing threads off forums

i took it with a pinch of salt but on reading a magazine last night there was a problem on the problem page that was written word for word on here that i read 2 days before the magazine came out so unless the poster sent in a exact copy to the magazine then yes people they do steal posts

Of course they do. Once it's posted on here it can be 'stolen' by newspapers/magazines/TV programmes. That's why you should be very careful to only post what you would be happy to share with the whole world...

Unshriven · 22/08/2019 19:24

It isn't stealing really, just copying.

Sometimes writers fish for stuff too, so threads on here are written especially to generate magazine/newspaper content.

There was a very funny thread where a journo accidentally posted her brief, word for word. Grin

Loads of stuff on here is just made up bollocks you know.

and your AIBU is...

The quality of many print media is utterly shit nowadays. I don’t mean to be rude but how uninterested in your work and unimaginative would you have to be to copy content from MN?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 22/08/2019 19:27

This is an open, public space like any other. Of course there'll be dickheaded journos stealing stories/threads because they're too lazy/stupid to think up their own articles.

Take A Break does it all the time.
