Is there a doctor in the house?

Or anyone else who might be able to decipher a letter from a specialist to a GP.

Letter states 'Adjusted calcium is low at 2.07.......'

Google tells me that calcium should be between 8 and 10 more or less.

A friend tells me that it's not that low as it should be between 2.4 and 2.8 or there or thereabouts.

Who is correct?

If you're a doctor, maybe bear in mind that letter to GP is coming from hepatology where albumin would be a concern and measured.
They have suggested parathyroid hormone level testing.

I'm just wondering whether I'm way low or just a tiny bit under (hard to get GP appointment).

Labs vary slightly in reference ranges but locally normal is 2.2 to 2.6. I wouldn’t get too worried about 2.07 but would want to get your vitamin D levels checked first, as well as parathyroid. Vast majority here (Scotland) due to low vit D. Hope that helps.

There is calcium and adjusted/corrected calcium - will have differing ranges

Google tells me that calcium should be between 8 and 10 more or less.

Depends on the unit that is used.

8-10 is the normal range in mg/dL whereas its likely in the U.K. that your result is in mmol/L for which the NHS says the normal range (for corrected calcium) is 2.2-2.6.

Disclaimer: not a doctor (But I do have a medical translation business and lab ranges are good business!).

Yes normal range is 2.2 to 2.6 approx ( each lab has it’s own reference range) .

Ok cool, so it's just slightly under then.
