Help! Dead mouth in a hoarders room... Oh the smell...

A friend of mine has got a mouse, he thinks the cat brought it in and let it loose. He's twatted about sorting it, buying traps and not setting them up, then setting them up but them not going off, so resorted to poison. I don't agree with this, I think it's cruel but I also pointed out that the mouse then wanders off and dies somewhere else in the house!

Naturally, he ignored me and now his office has the most horrific smell. He has a huge house (lives alone) that is kept relatively tidy, and he has a cleaner, but his office is his man cave and looks like a teenagers bedroom. Stuff everywhere, all over the floor, he thinks it's a charming kind of organised chaos but now it's come to bite him in the arse as that mouse could be anywhere.

He wants me to help look for it. I can't bear the smell (especially in this heat!) And really don't want to! I can't think of anything I'd rather do less today!

Cqn't the cat be arsed to find it, then? It could have died under the floorboards... Is it a suspended floor, or built on concrete? If the former, the corpse will happily decompose and stop smelling after a short while, never to be discovered until anyone has a reason to lift the floorboards to see what else made its way through the airbricks underneath the house, or through gaps from inside the house, and then decided to die there. If the latter, then it will be discovered when he actually needs to access whatever pile of junk it died in. No need for you to torture yourself - it's all his fault and his problem!

Serin it really is grim isn't it. I'm a pretty messy/untidy person but the thought of a dead mouse in my home would horrify me. The thought of a dead mouse rotting somewhere would make me want to burn the house down! He's just so blasé about the whole thing. I've said everything PPs have said - especially that there's unlikely just to be one! - and he needs to tackle it NOW.

He didn't listen. And poisoned the poor thing giving it a slow painful death I won't help him, I just felt a bit bad refusing to. I used to be a cleaner and have dealt with some shitholes at times, so I'm not squeamish. But getting paid to do a job is different from rescuing someone from their own self induced stupidity.

The smell is horrific. I guess karma is a bitch and maybe that mouse is being extra stinky on purpose from beyond the grave
