To think some people are effortlessly glamorous

On holiday in Southern Europe. It’s around 32C and sunny.

All around me are very slim women in loose flowing clothes looking very cool and glamorous. And long swishy hair.

Then there’s me looking very British in my Boden maxi dress (size 12) and sun hat, flushed and INCREDIBLY sweaty with my make up running off. Hair tied back and damp with perspiration. Came back to hotel to shower, wash hair, take off make up to redo it all to go out to dinner.

How on earth do some people manage to not be bothered by the heat? We’ve walked a lot today and my ankles have also swollen in the heat - very sexy! I wear big short pants under my dresses so my thighs don’t get sweaty and rub too. 😂

Size 12 and you say you're dumpy or whatever Hmm

alittlebitalexis · 22/08/2019 14:24

@billy1966 I have dyed, curly hair and it loves Shea Naturals stuff, especially the Castor Oil masque and leave-in conditioner. Between that and going with the curl rather than trying to straighten, the weather makes very little difference to my hair any more.

Thanks ladies, will check those out. I wish I had a curl, always had curly hair envy. The menopause has just decimated the texture, density, condition. Beyond annoying.

ZaZathecat · 22/08/2019 14:33

Yes, some people are. It helps to be fairly young of course, and if you have a naturally tanned skin tone and dark eyelashes you can look made up with nothing but a bit of lip gloss. (I am not describing myself. Blue skin, invisible lashes and brows and thin, dry hair!)

Luxembourgmama · 22/08/2019 14:34

They're more used to the heat. As a result they get less sweaty they also have months of hot weather so have experimented with what clothes work for them.

lazylinguist · 22/08/2019 14:37

A lot of it is simply about being very slim imo. That makes their clothes look better and it also makes them less likely to be sweaty walking about in the heat.

matahairyy · 22/08/2019 14:38

I am. And it’s a lot of effort.

Basketofkittens · 22/08/2019 16:34

Another day done, going to shower, change and redo my hair and make-up by starting over. Urghhhhhh.

I’m a size 12 and 5’7 but honestly, I feel dumpy compared to some of the women here who are very slim. I have cotton maxi dresses and nice, comfortable sandals but I still look a mess. 😂

I used to be airline cabin crew and some of the crew looked so svelte and glamourous. I looked okay grooming wise even after spending ages getting ready but some of the girls always look amazing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I always oil my hair and pile it on top of my head in the heat. Hot oil conditioning on the go! I wear huge sunglasses and a cotton shift or shirtdress with a non underwire bra. I never sit in the sun over about 23 degrees either.
I bet you don't really look bad though OP. Go and have a nice long cold drink.

pottedshrimps · 22/08/2019 17:17

I'm short and dumpy too and I can't cope comfortably in temps above 18. I'm definitely a cold adapted species.

I'm an apple shape so always look fat and top heavy and ill proportioned. I look like a potato with matchstick legs. I'm hopelessly pale and go red and sweaty just thinking about it. My glasses slide down my nose and I invariably spill something down my top within minutes of putting it on.

I can't wear makeup due to having very dry sensitive eyes so I look like a piggy face. I have nothing going for me in the looks dept 🤪

Sadie789 · 22/08/2019 21:07

Aw @pottedshrimps I completely feel you. Don’t be so harsh on yourself though. You should move to Scotland like me - perfect climate!

matahairyy · 23/08/2019 00:19

Comfortable sandals ?!!
