My son is getting around 8-9 hours sleep a night and it’s driving me nuts. He is pretty tired and grouchy during the day. He is active. Walks to and from school (30 mins each way) cycles, does school p.e and a swimming lesson. Even if he is in bed at 8, he can’t fall asleep until about half nine, then he’s up 5.30-6 next morning. Ahh. Anyone else have kids like this?

My 7 & 9yo are in bed by 8 latest on a school night. The 9yo usually reads for about an hour, youngest is usually asleep within 15mins.

I think it's fine. I get them to bed earlier if they seem tired, but my eldest always needs a good hour of down time before she falls asleep.

Some kids do need less sleep.
DC2 is 11, and for the last couple of years has slept 21.30-06.30. She's well, physically active, probably has too much screen time by MN standards but we do try to avoid in the hour before bed. We tried limiting access to TV/tablet before 07.00 but it didn't make a jot of difference.

My Dd was the same at 3. The doctor said some kids just don't need sleep. She hardly had a nap either.

She is the same now age 11. Teenage year she will be interesting.

My daughter is now 14. She lies in until midday these days.
Finds it hard to fall asleep though.

My ds ( has Adhd) so not a great sleeper. At that age he was allowed to read in his room...obviously can't make him stay asleep but he slept better not allowed out till 7.
