Anyone have any remedies for a suspected stomach ulcer. I have taken an omerazole but not much relief. I have been taking painkillers which l think is causing this. Any advice welcome.

You need to take the medication for around 5-7 days to start to notice the difference. It won’t give you instant relief.

TapasForTwo · 20/08/2019 19:47

Omeprazole needs to be taken regularly for it to have any effect. What does your GP say?

IceAndASlice123 · 20/08/2019 19:48

Manuka honey as well as your medication

Jingers5 · 20/08/2019 19:48

I used to take it but stopped stupidly. I suffered something awful today with it. Thanks jebuschristchocolatebar.

Lansoprazole or Omeprazole but needs correct dosage and to be taken consistently over a period of time.

WonderTweek · 20/08/2019 19:51

Omeprazole takes a while to work so it might still give you some relief. I was on 20mg at some point (I think) and it took about a week or two before I noticed the difference. I've also been on lansoprazole which was good, and I think they generally put you on it for at least two months for a suspected ulcer. Other than that, gaviscon. I prefer the liquid because it's fast acting. Also bland food and eating little and often. I used to go for bananas, yoghurt, bread and yazoos when mine flared up and I avoided fatty foods and coffee. I've luckily not had a proper flare up for a few years now which I think is because I stopped smoking.

I hope you find relief soon! Stomach ulcers suck. Angry

I was fine for ages but started getting bad heartburn in the last few days then stomach pain today. I had bad period pain too and had to take painkillers to get on top of the pain. Haven't got a chance to see the doctor yet but will make an appointment.

Get the darkest green freshest cabbage you can find.
Wash it.
Pull one or two leaves off, then using the ones underneath
Chop them into tiny little strips/bits
Put them in boiling water with a little bit of sea salt and maybe a little bit of butter until they are soft.
Eat this with bread (not when it's too hot).
And drink the cooled down liquid left over (it will be green). Better when it's warm.

This pretty much healed the beginnings of a stomach ulcer I had.

There is good evidence for the efficacy of cabbage (seriously).

hazeyjane · 20/08/2019 19:55

Try to stick to paracetamol for the period pains.

Ds had to have a high dose of Lansoprazole when stomach ulcers were first discovered, then it was reduced, but we have to increase it when he has bad reflux flare ups.

You need to see a medical professional! There are certain painkillers that must not be used if you have gastric issues. See a GP!

Jingers5 · 20/08/2019 20:04

I will definitely try the cabbage. How much of it do l have to eat each day? I will probably not get a gp apt until at least end of week. I won't be taking any more painkillers.

This will give you some relief and it's easy. Fill a cup to about a third full with sugar. Pour hot water over the top to dissolve. Drink it.
Did this many times myself.

Jingers5 · 20/08/2019 20:10

RichPetunia just sugar on its own?
I am really miserable and would take anything for relief

How many milligrams of omeprazole a day are you on OP?

justasking111 · 20/08/2019 20:19

Drink lots of water to dilute the acid. Take Gaviscon for acid reflux. When I came off omeprazole was weaned off by taking it plus ranitidine, GP said no harm taking both at the same time. So I did gradually swapping over. Eat little and often. Avoid acidic foods. Jacobs cream crackers, mash, ham, milk, very boring but it does work.

I went to my GP today. He thinks l have gallstones, have to wait on ultrasound and take omeporazole tablets and go on a low fat diet 😂

justasking111 · 21/08/2019 21:06

you have my sympathy I nursed mine along for years with a low fat diet but eventually I had the op.

Jingers5 · 21/08/2019 22:31

The pain of it is horrible. It seems to come with waves...

@jingers5 did you end up finding out what was the cause of your problems? I have the same symtoms. Also been told it could be gallstones so would be interested to see if this was in fact the cause of your pain xx

Jingers5 · 02/02/2022 10:58

I had the scan and was told l had a fatty liver. The pain eased off after a few weeks thankfully.

I'm glad you're feeling better xx
