To want to live in NYC

Missuspissy · 20/08/2019 10:20

Recently split up from long term partner(10 years) we have 3 children who we share custody of.
I can’t get out of my head that I want to live in NY. I love it there. I dream about it every night and wake up heartbroken that it wasn’t real! I’m going back for a few days next year but I want to be there all the time.
The ex won’t be happy about this and will undoubtedly stop me from taking the DC.
Im hitting 40 in the next few years and it scares me that I’ll never get to fulfil this dream.

I moved to NY when I was in my twenties and it was one of the best things I’d ever done. And I had no money, so the idea you have to be super wealthy is bollocks.

Did you have three children with you?

Are you a US citizen or have a Green Card? If not how are you planning to get a visa? The US has one of the toughest immigration policies in the word!

LagunaBubbles · 20/08/2019 12:44

What is your job OP?

@Missuspissy I live in NYC! I am happy to indulge your fantasy, or tell you it's a ridiculous idea :)

I actually did an AMA thread a while back if you want to take a look it's here:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/AMA/3574465-I-live-in-New-York-City-Ask-Me-Anything

I don’t think the OP was for real or will actually be back, so it’s all a bit of a moot point anyway.

Missuspissy · 20/08/2019 15:04

Sorry, I’m out for the day with DC. I do realise I’ve got my head in the clouds, but hey, a girl can dream.
The ex and I were getting married in NY and said that we’d love to move there.
I work in the beauty industry

The OP didn’t mention her children living in NY too

Yes she did

The ex won’t be happy about this and will undoubtedly stop me from taking the DC.

When you say beauty industry, do you mean you work for L’Oréal or similar? If you’re in a good position there you could possibly get a secondment, otherwise I can’t see how it would be possible.

Have just moved from UK to another part of the US & was crazy expensive even with assistance from jobs. Looked at NYC, was totally out of our range even with 2 high earners & decent savings. Public schools are not great there & privates run ~$45k/y so....

allfurcoatnoknickers · 20/08/2019 19:34

@Missuspissy Flat's a bit cramped with two people, two dogs and a baby Grin

Missuspissy · 21/08/2019 10:38

I’m only little! You’ll barely notice I’m there!!
