Just that really. Where did it come from?

AIBU to find it annoying?

I took it to mean something creative that doesn't necessarily pay enough on its own (i.e. the person still have a day job). People have been doing this for years, guess it's just a popular term for it now.

notsohippychick · 19/08/2019 17:16

Jesus. People can’t win. You get slated on here if a woman doesn’t earn an income, if she’s “side hustling” it implies to be she’s gaining extra income. I don’t get the problem. It’s terminology.

notsohippychick · 19/08/2019 17:19

I just re read the thread so far. Talk about some bitchy comments. It’s awful.

But nobody is slating people for earning an income or not. It's about the words side hustle specifically, that's all. Nothing personal to anybody Confused

Really? The thread has started lots of bitchy comments about people’s “side hustles” which is very personal no?

inwood · 19/08/2019 18:00

Can't stand it. MLM shite.

GibbonLover · 19/08/2019 18:03

No. There are approximately a page and a half of comments referring to the phrase

YANBU OP, it is cringeworthy. I say this as someone with more than one 'income stream'. I sell old stuff on Ebay, I don't run with the county lines, whatever they are.

Cinammoncake · 19/08/2019 18:21

GibbonLover COUNTY LINES !! that's another one I can't stand. Imo it's glorifying drug dealing by making it seem like we're in the US.

notsohippychick I've nothing against peoples actual side hustles obviously - its the words side hustle The actual phrase.

Thank you Raptor that’s precisely what I was coming along to say.

So many people can’t afford to live on their full time wage. This is a way of making “barely scraping even and having to drive an Uber or con people into buying make up just to pay the rent” sound like a cool choice rather than a grim necessity.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 19/08/2019 19:49

Sounds like someone is just bitter because they can’t be arsed to get a side hustle to improve their financial situation

Sounds like someone is losing all her friends by unsuccessfully trying to flog them overpriced lip gloss and the chance to be a boss babe Grin

Wehttam · 19/08/2019 19:55

Fiddlesticks inbox me hun. XOXO

Bezalelle · 19/08/2019 20:18

It's the terminology we're slagging off, not the actual fact of working a second job. Some people's reading comprehension is abysmal!

Snog · 20/08/2019 14:31

@Cinammoncake what expression do you prefer instead of side hustle?

putsomethingontheendofit · 20/08/2019 14:45

Moonlighting! :D

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/08/2019 14:48

what expression do you prefer instead of side hustle?

In the case of MLM either scam or Ponzi scheme would work. Ripoing my friends off at a push.

Chouetted · 20/08/2019 16:40

@snog I'd suggest moonlighting, or second job. People have been doing this sort of thing since time immemorial, there are plenty of words for it.

OneFootintheRave · 20/08/2019 16:57

@MerryShitmas GrinGrinI WILL steal that line at some point.

CSIblonde · 20/08/2019 17:03

Never head this & I work with achingly trendy hipsters half my age. Hustle has illegal connotations to me.

OtraCosaMariposa · 20/08/2019 17:08

See my main job is freelancing, working from home, various income streams because I have various clients.

I'm not "hustling". I'm working. Just like anyone else who leaves the house ans does a similar job from an office.

Frannyhy · 20/08/2019 20:58

I do airbnb and match betting. As long as I stay under 7.5k per year (I make sure I do) for airbnb I’m legal. The 8k I earned last year from match betting is tax free because I’ve won the money.

An extra 15.5k tax free per year from side hustles? What’s not to like about it.

GibbonLover · 20/08/2019 21:59

Oh for crying out loud, does someone really have to repeat this?

IT IS THE PHRASE WHICH IS ANNOYING

There is nothing to dislike about extra money. It's the words some people use to describe the earning of this extra money which others dislike.

Anyway, I've learnt something new today. There is definitely something infinitely more annoying than the phrase 's h**'. People who don't RTFT before commenting.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/08/2019 23:43

Its name. That's all. Nothing else. AirBnB isn't a hustle. You aren't Huggy Bear, Janice.
