Spider season

So it's begun. Just had a massive one run across the floor. Phoned 'D'H who was asleep upstairs to come and get it but he refused. Bastard. Luckily cat is in so she is currently staking out the sofa it ran under.

AIBU to ask for best methods to get rid of them? I had one of the plug ins but that didn't work. Also tried the spray but no luck there either. I've got a cordless Dyson so that might do the job but I don't want to get that close.

Yup. Had a massive one in the lounge tonight. Up on its legs. Eurgh.

Confers are good. Get fresh ones and place them by all doors. They do work.

Trouble is, they’re not ready yet!! Spiders are early this year.

I quite like spiders - they kill flies and mosquitoes. I caught myself baby talking to one the other day (the summer holidays have gone on for a long time).

I do understand phobias (I have a weird sensory issue about slime / play doh / chewing gum). It’s interesting that so many people are afraid of spiders. I wonder whether this is a phobia that is learnt (like seeing a bunch of people who shriek whenever they see one) or whether it is evolutionary?

Arseface · 18/08/2019 23:27

I completely understand the visceral fear. By all means run and scream but please don’t kill them or buy sprays.
They’re very good at despatching nasty bugs that can properly hurt you and the sprays kill lots of other harmless and vital insects.
I find spiders fascinating and happy to trap and release one but a big hairy bugger scuttling about unexpectedly still makes me jump.

Indirect flea spray. Spray around the windows and doors.

Kills wasps too.

#teamflies I'm afraid, they ruin my piece of mind if I spot them and my anxiety goes through the roof.

@EverTheConundrum we’re moving next year and this is my first choice.

Don’t kill them, be team fly, let them run around. All great. Unless you have an actual phobia. In a perfect world I would not get DP to kill spiders and would let them run around etc. But in I perfect world I wouldn’t need to go into work the morning after being in such a state I wasn’t able to function. I know it’s “stupid” and I know it’s something I have to work on. But until then they’re dying. ¯\(ツ)
