DD and second piercing

7 replies

pinkelephantsanddietcoke · 18/08/2019 19:23

DD9 is desperate for a second ear piercing. Loads of her friends already have but DH says it's chavvy.
My mum was super strict with things like this and I like to think I'm more easy going and don't think it's that big a deal.
Thoughts?

My dd wants a second piercing too. I’ve said no - she’s 11. I might, might, allow her when she’s 13/14.

My stock response to “everyone else has it” is “I’m not interested in what x has. You aren’t”.

No big deal. Times have moved on and it’s not always apropriate to carry forward what were parental rules from our own parents. If later on she chooses not to wear it, an ear piercing will hardly show.

My own ears have been pierced twice, but I don’t always wear earrings in both ears.

would not bother me but I am fairly easy going.

Personally I've been pretty relaxed about ear piercings for my DD. They can always be taken out if needed, and hardly show. Your DH is entitled not to like how it looks, but it's your DD's body. I'd say yes.

I would say yes but I like piercings myself and had 8 by the time I was 14.

This was solved for my 6 y/o DD when grandmother no. 1 (chavvy) took her for multiple piercings in order to annoy grandmother no. 2 (snobby).
Everyone got over it.

@BlokeNumber9 love this response 😂

Thanks everyone. Thought I'd get crucified for even thinking about it!
