Fon't usually get UTIs but I've probably not been drinking enough in the first few weeks of breastfeeding. It's come on suddenly snd I have duch a strong urge to empty my bladder. I'll go to the pharmacy tomorrow and the GP on Monday if needed, but is there anything to relieve the urge to pee overnight do I can sleep?!

The best thing you can do is to drink loads of water. Dehydration is terrible for a UTI. You may need to pee constantly, but that's actually what you need to be doing.

Hidingtonothing · 18/08/2019 01:29

Drink lots of water (obvious but it does help!), paracetamol, hot water bottle can sometimes help (doesn't always for me Sad) and a warm bath can help stop that 'urge' feeling. And then yes, pharmacy tomorrow, hope you can manage to get comfortable enough to sleep OP, UTI's are horrible Flowers

Lemon barley water is meant to help. Also you can buy cystitis relief packets in most supermarkets off the shelf. You can also buy antibiotics through online pharmacies run by boots or super drug.

usernolongerexists · 18/08/2019 01:37

try drinking a beer if you have it, that’s helped to keep me going overnight before.

Crybabyghoul · 18/08/2019 01:38

Bicarbonate of soda in water will help it's basically what's in the sachets. It will neutralise the urine so it doesn't cause pain. I use a teaspoon in a tall glass, mixed well.

Get in a warm bath and pee in there!

Skittlenommer · 18/08/2019 01:52

I used to suffer repeated UTIs and honestly, it sounds gross, but a pint of warm water with a spoonful of baking soda (tastes awful) but it takes the sting out.Seep on your side and pin a cushion between your legs (with a hot water bottle) if it really stings! Helps not to keep your legs squished together. Takes pressure off the bladder/urethra!

Highly recommend keeping some of this is you’re cupboard, I’d never, ever be without it now! Absolute life saver!

I tried the bicarbonate of Soda (1 teaspoon) in a glass of water and it really helped. I did one massive wee an hour or so later then felt much better. Still needed antibiotics of course, and it wasn’t a perfect cure, but it got me through the gap between them testing my wee and giving me antibiotics with less pain. Good luck!

Hidingtonothing · 18/08/2019 02:07

Totally agree re: d mannose but just thought I ought to mention it can't be used while pregnant or breastfeeding. Amazing stuff though.

plantwhisperer · 18/08/2019 02:08

I'm so sorry for you! I've just got over a UTI after a weeks worth of (horrid) antibiotics so I know your pain very vividly Shock

Definitely drink loads of water, try and eat healthily (lots of fruit & veg) as it'll up your immune system, avoid caffeine as it can irritate the symptoms.

Get well soonThanks

MeltingSugs · 18/08/2019 02:43

I go for a hot bath, as hot as I can handle, and it kind of numbs the area and takes the worst of it away for a while. That usually lets me nod off. Hope you get some sleep soon OP, UTIs are grim x

Nat6999 · 18/08/2019 03:04

Make a bottle of weak squash with a couple of teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda in it, every 15 minutes make yourself drink a tumbler full of it, keep on doing it until you can get to a doctor or pharmacy, take paracetamol & ibuprofen, a hot water bottle will help, try to not keep on going to the loo to squeeze out a tiny amount, get your bladder as full as you can to flush the germs out, try & drink double the amount you wee out.

PriestessModwena · 18/08/2019 03:18

I've got hints & tips, I would recommend calling 111 though, as you'll have to see a GP or Dr, as pharmacists can't help with this one.

It may seem crazy, 111 advocated I go to hospital, it was quick and painless, I couldn't apologise enough, the consultant on shift said they'd rather deal with it, than patients suffering.

Most hospitals have a triage system anyway, run usually by nurse practitioners, they can prescribe trimethoprim.

In the mean time, flush, flush, flush with water. If you can get cranberry juice that works to take the Ph of your urine down, to stop the burning.

If it's a frequently thing then Morrison's do the nicest incontinence pants. I know this sounds awful, sometimes your bladder decides to just do it's own thing.

Sodium citrate can be thought from super markets, it's purpose is the same as cranberries. You really need anti biotics.

If you're still up suffering PLEASE call 111 as UTI's can make you quite poorly.

All the best OP.

NotSoThinLizzy · 18/08/2019 03:55

My mum swears by cranberry juice loads of it.

Birdtablegreen · 18/08/2019 10:12

Ibuprofen and paracetamol together - I find ibuprofen works better as it helps with the inflammation of your bladder rather than just the pain. It that fails, cocodamol has worked for me before - just obviously don’t take with paracetamol!

And a hot water bottle between your legs is heaven!
