AIBU to think bullfighting is beyond cruel?

And to boycott Spain until they stop this barbaric practice? My friend who is Spanish said she understood why outsiders find it disgusting but it is part of their male culture. If the Spanish want to fight a bull do it one on one without swords and without the bull bleeding to death prior to getting into the ring. AIBU?

I don’t eat meat but I do eat eggs occasionally. I won’t anymore, thank you for the links. I agree in some ways it is the same as animals getting slaughtered. Even worse is Halal slaughter. However the bull festival gets me as it is men displaying their ‘bravery’ against a dying animal. Let’s take the same men from their death bed in years to come and put them in front of a brave bull.

It’s the same as you are basically saying there’s no point you making small changes if you aren’t going to go all in.

Stopping meat production is a fantasy at the moment, stopping bull fighting is (thankfully) inevitable in the near future.

"Q)How can you tell if someone is vegan??

Oh I have never heard this before how original! Confused

BobLobLawLLB · 17/08/2019 23:35

Imagine being so fragile you are offended by a group of people that don't want to hurt animals......

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 17/08/2019 23:42

Animals being killed for food is one thing but animals being killed for entertainment is a whole different bull game (pun anyone?)

Jokes aside. It's barbaric. As is dog fights, cock fights and horse racing.

One of the things that prevents veganism (or vegetarianism if you lack commitment) from becoming more widespread is the appalling self-satisfied smugness of its practitioners.

BobLobLawLLB · 17/08/2019 23:53

Not really. It's for the animals, not to annoy you personally.

TwistedStrawberry · 17/08/2019 23:55

I'd suggest also looking at how the Spanish treat their hunting dogs, the galgos.

We're no better though.

TwistedStrawberry · 17/08/2019 23:57

I'm a vegan. I've been a vegan for 32 years. I don't preach. I'm constantly questioned, constantly people try to trip me up. If you're happy to eat animals, and know they suffer terribly, then do so. Crack on.

I've been in my job 7 years. Nobody knew until Christmas just gone when I had to ask for a tweak in the menu. Weirdly, I knew all my colleagues ate meat.

"One of the things that prevents veganism (or vegetarianism if you lack commitment) from becoming more widespread is the appalling self-satisfied smugness of its practitioners."

Oh look another line often repeated about the apparent smugness of vegans that apparently stops people from becoming vegans. I mean you just HAVE to buy a meat product because those smug vegans. "Yeah that'll teach those vegans"Confused
I mean REALLY.
Its the same crap trotted out over and over again that people use to try and belittle vegans and make them feel stupid.
Anyone with an open mind would look into veganism and see the true facts laid out there instead of being a sheep and trotting out the same rubbish as other people.
It makes you look stupid.

Me too!

percheron67 · 18/08/2019 03:24

A point worth making is that sometimes the horses in the ring are also gored. Often, they are patched up and sent back into the ring again.

PriestessModwena · 18/08/2019 03:27

I agree totally barbaric, especially the pictures I saw of bulls horns on fire.

I don't think boycotting Spain is the answer. If you feel strongly about it, look online for petitions and charities who focus on this. If you have the time offer to help.

Lots of people hate bull fighting, dolphins used for entertainment, all they can do is petition and hope for change. Those willing to go a step further go into activism.
