Calling all lefties !!!

AMBU to say DH is wrong?!

Ok so my DH and I have been having this argument forever!
I am a leftie and he is right handed. Two of our DC are also right handed (third is only 6 months and still undecided).
I hold my fork in LEFT hand and knife in RIGHT hand - argument being that you do more with your dominant hand and therefore the fork should be in it.
He also holds fork in LEFT hand - arguing you do more with the KNIFE and therefore it should be in dominant hand.
Who is right?!
I'd like to also add that we have recently discovered that DC1 (right-handed) holds fork in RIGHT hand. We asked him why and his exact words were - because you do more with the fork and it should be in RIGHT hand.

According to a study DH found online; around 75% of lefties hold fork in LEFT hand too 🤷‍♀️

Any lefties out there do the same?!
Or am I and DC1 - according to DH - completely bonkers?! 😜

Please help us put this to bed MN! This lefty needs your help!

I'm a leftie and I hold my fork in my left hand and my knife in my right hand.

SexFarmWoman · 17/08/2019 21:18

Family of five, four right handers and one lefty.

We all hold the fork in the left hand, that's just the way I was taught was the ' correct' way.

DareDevil223 · 17/08/2019 21:18

Leftie here. I hold my fork in my left hand and my knife in my right.

Notthebradybunch · 17/08/2019 21:20

I'm left handed, use knife in left, fork in right, whatever feels most comfortable or natural to you I guess.

Mytupenceworth · 17/08/2019 21:20

Etiquette is left hand fork, right hand knife. Being left out right handed doesn't even come into it

Gingernaut · 17/08/2019 21:20

Lefty here too. I use cutlery the right handed way - fork in left hand and knife in right as per the table setting.

I can use cutlery the other way around though, used to annoy my mother no end.

Spoon goes in left hand, obviously.

Ilikewinter · 17/08/2019 21:20

Im a leftie...fork in left, knife in right.....DH is right handed and has fork in right, knife in left ... not sure that helps you solve your argument!!

BinkySodPlop · 17/08/2019 21:21

I'm a leftie and hold my fork in my left hand, but mainly because my mother would not have let me eat at the dinner table without holding them in the "correct" hands! Smile. However..... I never use my right hand if eating 1-handed, and I hold dessert cutlery the "wrong" way, by having whatever is going in my mouth (fork or spoon) in my left.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 17/08/2019 21:23

Agree it’s not about handedness. Think of restaurants - table is always set with fork on left and knife on right. Don’t know many people who deviate from that!

mintplum · 17/08/2019 21:23

I'm a leftie, fork in left hand and knife in right. The rest of my family are right landed and do the same.

NoHummus · 17/08/2019 21:26

I'm left handed too, and like everyone else on the thread, hold my fork in my left hand and my knife in my right.

Pinkpeanut27 · 17/08/2019 21:26

We are a family of right ganders I hold my fork in the left and knife in tne right .
Dh and the kids do the opposite !

DappledThings · 17/08/2019 21:26

I am left-handed and so are both my parents. We all use our cutlery correctly; fork in left hand, knife in right and held like a knife not a pen!

Being left- handed doesn't make me want to hold my cutlery incorrectly.

Belindabelle · 17/08/2019 21:27

I am left handed and use my fork in my left hand because anything else would not have been allowed. My parents were very hot on etiquette.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 17/08/2019 21:30

I'm a leftie and have fork in left hand and knife in right, if I'm cutting something difficult up I'll swop knife to left then back again.

I’m a rightie, fork in left hand knife in right. That’s what my parents taught me!

RachelEllenR · 17/08/2019 21:37

I hold my fork in left and knife in right. But if only holding a knife (ie buttering bread) I hold it in my left.

My right handed children I've noticed do similar with their fork. Hold it in their left unless only using a fork in which case they hold it with their right.

MrsPepperpot1969 · 17/08/2019 21:39

My daughter’s a leftie and finds it much easier to eat with her fork in her right hand and knife in her left.

Put it this way. I was brought up in a chill household, half the time I didn't use a knife unless I had too. So I would just use my fork in my left hand to pick my food up as it's my most dominant. Then as I got older and began to use my knife more, I was so used to having my fork in my left hand, that's just how it goes. If you're brought up to use your knife and fork then I suppose it would be different

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 17/08/2019 21:42

I'm a lefty and hold my fork in left hand

Goatrider · 17/08/2019 21:42

I use them correctly

I know right handers who use fork in their right hand when it's a 'fork only' type of meal.

StroppyWoman · 17/08/2019 21:43

I'm a leftie. My family, my DH's family and our DC are all right-handed.

They all follow the perceived ettiquette that the knife is in the dominant hand, the fork in the lesser.
That's how restaurants lay tables and that's been our experiences.

I use my knife in my dominant hand (left) and fork in the lesser hand

Natsel84 · 17/08/2019 21:44

I'm left handed , hold my fork in my left hand and knife in my right

For desserts I hold my spoon in my left hand
