To be concerned and think people are stupid

Not long got off ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth which takes 9 hours.

Most of the daily entertainment is in the bar such a family quiz panto ect.

There aren't many foot passengers it's mainly cars caravans & motorhomes so lots of the people on board were going to be driving once we arrived back at Portsmouth but a huge amount of people were sat with pints or glasses of wine Hmm

There were to couples sat next to us we saw them consume at least 3 alcoholic drinks. When the announcement came on about who leaves to go to which deck to get their vehicles when we dock deck 3 was announced first so this is mainly caravans motorhome and larger vehicles i then hear the couple's next to us say well thats us then.

We couldn't believe they consumed so much alcohol with a good chance they'd be towing a caravan.

A lot of others were also drinking though definitely more than one drink too. My DH pointed it out at lunch time the amount of alcohol being drank so throughout the afternoon we did some people watching and it was quite shocking.

breath testing should take place at the docks before people head off onto the road.

(I'm not moaning because i didn't get to have a drink Grin genuinely just shocked)

There are some alcohol free stouts out there I gather, and some guinness-type alcohol free beverages. I think it unlikely they sell these on board.

If they actually were drinking (seemingly very likely, but not 100% from what you say) and one of the driver's was definitely one of the drinkers (again seems v likely, but I guess we don't know 100%), and if that driver consumed more than half a pint, or maybe a pint with food over a longish time period, then yes, that is completely out of order and very stupid and I have little tolerance for people who actually drink and drive ...

Could they be on coaches? I used to go on coach trips loads, and they were always the type where everyone drank on the ferry (wine tours, beer festivals etc). We didn't have our bag with us, it never occurred to me others would think we were drink driving.

I find it hard to believe so many people would be drink-driving nowadays.

I was on the same ferry bizarrely enough 😁.

I'd have thought having gone both ways that the potential for people being drunk drivers was higher after the night crossing. I didn't see many drinking at all on the day one yesterday. Alcohol wears off the same during the day as it does at night and there was a lot of drinking on the night one. Plus the French limit is lower.

Obvs if the bloke sitting next to you had 3 and then went and drove his caravan home then that isn't right and he needs shopping to the police. But I don't think this was the norm at all.

And please be reassured OP not a drop touched my lips yesterday and I wasn't even driving....

@Teateaandmoretea same here i wasn't driving either but didn't drink. Did you spend much time watching entertainment? We we sitting at the back towards windows and it seemed that area where most of the drinking was happening not closer towards stage.

I wasn't driving either and didn't drink. It's the first time I've noticed it to be honest after it got pointed out to me. The way there though i have seen people having a few but never thought much about it stupidly with it being an over night and everyone being in good spirits on way to holiday. It's really just as bad as drinking on way home

Hope you had a lovely holiday

I went to Peter Pan for a bit (well for as long as it took to locate DH, quite a lot of row-scanning)

It obviously stands to reason that the drinkers would be in the bar and tbf I wasn't in it much but like the village's drink drivers will be in the pub. I did have a 🍺 on the way over... Possibly needing a drink yesterday afternoon so much you'd put up with Peter Pan could be MN's new definition of having a drink problem.

Great holiday, hope you did too 😁

I think this is shocking but I have to say I have been breastfeeding for too long now and if we go out to any type of pub I always have alcohol free lager or wine, I do not like fizzy pop and if I have too much fruit juice it gives me stomach ache. It would probably look like I was drinking alcohol.
