Pre school and accidents

When ur child started pre- school were they still having ‘ accidents ‘?

My child is fully toilet trained and tells me when needs to go but particularly when having fun can get a bit lazy and have accidents .

Is this common for preschool age (3) children and any ideas on how this is managed in nursery and how to fix it at home too ?

Totally normal. They will clear it up, change his clothes and give you the wet ones in a bag. You’ll be asked to bring in some spares in case of accidents.

They minimise accidents by taking them to the loo quite often or reminding them often, but it still happens, more with some than others.

How to fix at home: see if there are particular times it happens eg late afternoons when tired, or if playing with a particular thing they love. If so then get them to go to the loo more at that time, or at least prompt them. Eg my DD2 would have tv time at 4pm and kept wetting herself while watching, so it became the rule that she had to have a wee before the tv went on.

I work in a nursery for 3-5 year olds and accidents are completely normal.

Nursery/ preschool is a whole new surrounding for them with lots of new things to take their interest and investigate.

In my work we ask parents to have spare clothes for the children (we have spares though incase they have more than one or parents forget to top up their bags)

We remind all children to remember to go to the toilet and if there are any children who have accidents more often than others we discreetly remind them more than others.

We also have children still in nappies who also get cared for and nappies changed when required. and we work with parents to help potty train.
