Posting in here for traffic really. My little boys (5+6) have had a shit year-think alcoholic arse of a father. We are all cat mad-my love has clearly rubbed off on my boys Grin so I've decided to get them a cat. The eldest has asked many times, but the timing just wasn't right. Decided, fuck it, they both need this-really hoping it helps them to deal with everything that's been going on. Was just looking for cat advice..just generally speaking. I've had cats before, but when I was a carefree singleton living at home, which feels like a life time ago Smile we're getting a Male cat and he'll be ready in 2 weeks. So bloody exited-keeping it as a big surprise for my boys.

Get two - much more fun and company for each other

Get him done as soon as possible and don’t let him out until he’s fixed!

I have eight cats (all rescue) and two children with ASD. Even though we didn’t get the cats for the children, it has helped them with empathy and thinking of something other than their own needs. If you live near woods expect lots of dead things (or live things) bought in, so maybe get a collar with a bell. Have fun, I’m very excited for you

Here's my Ebony. She's a rescue & very nervous so has to be an indoor cat but she seems happy.

Congratulations. Cats have such great personalities & quirks. My rescue cat was very timid til we did play sessions together. She'll now come tap me with her paw when she wants to play & is way more social & confident. She also massively prefers nose boops, chin scratches & tailbase scratches to being picked up which she hates. And she loves high places like the top of the wardrobe with 'her' blankie which she'll cry for if it's not there.

Angeldust747 · 17/08/2019 20:47

If you get a cat flap get one that works off the microchip so he can't bring friends home lol! And maybe have a safe space for the cat away from the kids in case they are stressed and want a bit of peace?
Our pet insurance was invaluable when ours went into the woods and into a fight with something and nearly lost his tail. Well worth a fiver a month!

I have three indoor boys two are ok with outside they go in a pen but one refused the last time unfortunately one of them seems to be allergic to outdoors he goes out but he loses some of his fur after Bear

DrDreReturns · 17/08/2019 20:49

I've got two male cats, they are great fun! Definitely get him neutered. Mine are outdoor cats, they'd hate being stuck inside.

makingmammaries · 17/08/2019 20:57

Neutered male cats are wonderful providers. Mine bring mice and sometimes rats. Prepare to show proper appreciation, OP.

Siameasy · 17/08/2019 21:03

My cat gives me so much happiness so I am happy for you that you are getting one too! What colour etc is the cat? We have a Siamese. She’s something else!

My 'rule' when it comes to cats and children is to teach the children to wait until the cat comes to them rather than chasing the cat around. I have 2 cats who used to hide every time the children came round - now the cats actively seek them out for attention and will sit on or beside them. Both the children and the cats get what they want then.

TheBadCop · 18/08/2019 07:44

I'll definitely be getting him microchipped and neutered.

where are you getting the cat from? usually rescues microchip and neuter them before you can adopt them.

tierraJ · 18/08/2019 09:40

Hello Snowy! He's gorgeous

Spinderellacutituponetime · 18/08/2019 10:03

Cats are a joy. Love mine to bits. Let them out to roam and have fun. Lots of kittens waiting to be adopted. Two are very cute together and just as easy as one, plus company for each other.

Expectingkittens · 19/08/2019 18:37

You all have such beautiful cats SmileSmile
