Is salt really bad for you?

I was raised to think salt was bad for you, but recently I've realised that it relieves anxiety almost instantly. It doesn't make it disappear completely, but it really helps.

Since realising, I've read things about salt that suggests it's not bad for you at all and its ill effects are a myth.

AIBU to think salt's been given an unfair press for years?

It's necessary for life for everyone
Some people are very sensitive and for those people restricting it is necessary to be healthy
For many people it isn't an issue at all - so long as, obviously, you aren't taking it by the spoonful.

Like most things really.

Some people only need to inhale nicotine once or have one glass of wine to have a problem. Others can smoke or drink lots without an issue but for many people there is a LINE that once crossed it's difficult.

It helps your body absorb water so everyone needs some. It also makes most savoury food taste better although over salting is vile.

I have low sodium sometimes, so I tend to have some in food. Eg salted nuts.

I did wonder about that book by Samin Nosrat, salt fat acid heat. It seems intriguing, but is it healthy?

It is if you have hypertension or congestive heart failure
