To think it can't be normal to feel this tired?

I'm absolutely exhausted, I could go to sleep quite easily right now, I've been like this all week. It's not unusual for me to get like this especially on my totm. I also feel like my body is seized up, my legs ache going up the stairs and even bending to pick washing up my back hurts.

For info, I've been off work on leave all week and have hardly exerted myself, literally all I've done all week is nipped to the shops a few times, dropped eldest to and from football camp, and done some very basic housework/cooked dinner each evening. Nothing to make me so tired.

I went to the GP a few months ago about something else, but mentioned the tiredness, all bloods came back fine. Since then I've lost some weight as I was getting a bit overweight (I'm back to a healthy bmi now), I've taken up some regular exercise, I've improved my diet by cutting back on junk food and starchy carbs, eating more home cooked foods and veg. All this in the last 12 weeks or so, so why am I not feeling any better?

I don't think I'm depressed, although I can get a bit fed up and anxious on the whole I'm very happy. I'm just exhausted.

If I could take to my bed for a week and not be disturbed I'd be quite happy to do so.

Do you feel weak as in something is definitely off and that it is a struggle to even contemplate going to the shop? Do you have a light cough at all?

I had something similar a few years ago, had also been to the doctor a few weeks earlier for feeling very tired, back hurt, slight cough. When I came back a few weeks later after literally feeling that I needed to take a taxi instead of walking 10min to the doctor, it turned out I had walking pneumonia (blood values dreadful, left lung black on scan). Was on two different kinds on antibiotics and nearly admitted to hospital...

Did they test your iodine levels ?

Fartoomanytoys · 16/08/2019 17:55

Instantcoffeesavestheday that must have been awful.

I don't think it's anything like that because I get feeling like this all the time. I always just blame it on stress/pms/diet/weight.

Lowandlucky I'm not actually sure about that, they checked my thyroid which was fine, iron, hormone levels, lots of things.

Another one who was going to ask if you feel a bit chesty/light cough as theres been a bug going around and I’ve also felt like this all week!

InglouriousBasterd · 16/08/2019 18:00

They checked vitamin D? I was a total wreck with low (v low) vitamin D

iolaus · 16/08/2019 18:01

I was going back and forward to the GP for ages feeling like that

It was just getting worse - then a locum said we can try your b12 levels, but it's very unlikely to be that in your 20s - guess what it was? yep - b12

WTF1 · 16/08/2019 18:04

I've had hideous issues with fatigue the last few months...after much googling I am now taking vit B12, vit D3, magnesium, iron and vitamin c. All related to fatigue. And after 3-4 weeks I am feeling less knackered. Tho some way to go.

What I would say is that whilst bloods may all come back normal, are levels of things like iron as good as they could be? My ferritin was 44 in a range of 30-750...ie pretty near the bottom. Same with my D and B12. Its worth getting hold of your blood tests and having a closer look.

SmileEachDay · 16/08/2019 18:04

How old are you? If you’re in the peri menopause age bracket it could well be that.

Are you on any birth control?

Mummoomoocow · 16/08/2019 18:07

Fibromyalgia

Piffpaffpoff · 16/08/2019 18:09

I felt like that when I had glandular fever combined with a stupidly low, you-need-to-go-to-hospital-right-now iron level. Nothing that a month of rest and some mega iron tablets couldn't sort out. I literally felt like a new woman and couldn't believe I had accepted the tiredness for so long as just being 'getting older'.

The fact that you could happily take to your bed suggests something's not right so back to the docs for you I think. Hope you feel better soon.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 16/08/2019 18:10

I have been feeling this OP, saw the Dr at Xmas who did bloods, all normal. Then saw another who checked my ferritin level which was 14, so I'm taking iron now and looking forward to feeling better in a few months! I agree with other pps about b12, get that checked too. I hope you feel better soon.

WrongKindOfFace · 16/08/2019 18:31

When you say your results were all fine we’re they definitely all fine. Things like iron, ferritin and b12 can be just in range but leave you feeling like shit.

SavingSpaces2019 · 16/08/2019 19:02

i echo the above re B12 and Vit D.
My levels were never checked as part of the routine bloods.

RedSheep73 · 16/08/2019 19:25

I was like this at the weekend. I wonder if it was some kind of virus? If it doesn't improve I'd go to the doctor though, lots of things can make you unreasonably tired.

feistymumma · 17/08/2019 05:09

Did you get tested for Vitamin D levels? Being deficient causes extreme tiredness

Thingsdogetbetter · 17/08/2019 07:26

What age are you? I'm 52. Had the same fatigue with weak sore muscles and stressed because of the brain fog which made me very forgetful and disorganised at work. All bloods fine. Spoke to a female doctor who said perimenopause, and didn't bother with bloods. HRT and it took a month to be back to normal. Love HRT!

Tartan333 · 17/08/2019 07:51

I thought I had fibromyalgia, turns out it was very low vit d, I felt awful. Get your levels checked

InMySpareTime · 17/08/2019 08:02

Is your sleep ok at night? You could have ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Look it up on the NHS website, if you have long-term Fatigue not eased by sleep, and all your bloods are normal, it's the most likely diagnosis. ME/CFS is an exclusionary diagnosis so they have to rule out absolutely everything to get there.
Have you been tested for Lyme Disease? That's one of the more obscure tests I had.

namechange34 · 17/08/2019 19:48

I would also go back to gp and ask for vitamin d levels to be checked. If v low they will put you on a high dose for a few weeks then you can switch to OTC versions
