Least it’s all recycle-able I suppose but seriously?!

They're ridiculous with their packaging! We had a bucket load of paper shoved in the end of this box for 6 slimfast shakes!

Are you fucking kidding me?!
lololove · 16/08/2019 19:44

wouldn't have minded so much but they sent us 6 of a different flavour at the same time in a size appropriate box!

lotusbell · 16/08/2019 19:46

I dont think that's too bad from Amazon, I've had a lot worse. It doesn't look that much bigger than the umbrella and I suppose they don't have exact size boxes for every single thing.

Bearbehind · 16/08/2019 20:58

I really don’t get this.

If you’re happy to order online rather than go to the shops yourself - you have to accept you’re going to generate more packaging.

Getting all virtuous because it’s not as eco-friendly as it could be is somewhat hypocritical.

lotusbell · 16/08/2019 21:09

Superdrug are pretty bad for oversize boxes and Boots used to be the same but now seem to at least put smaller stuff in a bag but again, it's often a bag within a bag. It also annoys me that when ordering via a store's Click and Collect type system, they assume you have a car parked right outside/don't have other shopping, and hand over this huge box! Erm, heard of public transport? I now say "can I open this here and let you dispose of this ridiculous packaging? I have to get a bus home". Asda are real buggers for this! Attached pic is a Boots order from 2017.

How is the person working on your order going to have the faintest clue what lorry and what other thousands or parcels are going to loaded on it??

It’s not a person who works it out. There is an algorithm that tell the packer which box to pick.

PancakeAndKeith · 16/08/2019 21:47

As an aside this is the box my toilet roll came in today.

I bought a mouse from Dabs Direct way back - about 17 years ago - and it came in a box big enough for a small CRT monitor.

MrsFrankDrebin · 17/08/2019 08:02

I recently ordered 20 hangars off Amazon and got 20 litter pickers instead. That was very odd.

I also ordered 20 hangers from Amazon recently - got the hangers, but in an Amazon box so big it could comfortably have transported the largest size of wheely suitcase you can buy! (And lots and lots of the long brown packing paper to stop the hangers shaking themselves to bits inside the cavernous box!)

Ontheboardwalk · 17/08/2019 09:00

I got this from Amazon. It was the only thing in the box!

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 17/08/2019 09:03

I had the long skinny box pictured for a small tin of hair putty Confused

SoupDragon · 17/08/2019 09:21

That red thing looks exactly the right height for the box.

Ontheboardwalk · 17/08/2019 09:55

SoupDragon height maybe but def not width.

It’s a dust pan and brush, I thought I’d have to screw the handle together not for it to turn up in a 4 ft high box

MarySibleysFamiliar · 17/08/2019 11:51

'The book people' once sent Gangster Granny book strapped down into a 2ft wide box that was a good 6" deep. Could have fit twenty books in there. A padded envelope would have done!

SoupDragon · 17/08/2019 13:01

SoupDragon height maybe but def not width.

And do you imagine they have every possible sized box to cover any item they might need to send or do you think that maybe they just have a smaller number of set sizes and pick the best fit? In this case, they needed a box to fit the height of the handle. Which this does.

Ontheboardwalk · 17/08/2019 14:27

Yes for a online delivery firm I think they should have boxes to better fit the goods they are delivering.

StCharlotte · 17/08/2019 16:14

I'm as guilty as anyone but I reckon online shopping and its attendant logistics is as bad as meat and dairy in terms of condemning the planet to an early grave...

(Remember when Amazon only sold books?)
