To spend 8 minutes flossing my teeth?

Am I unreasonably slow? It feels like everyone else just takes a few minutes.

I do have sensory issues which means needing to do it a certain way for it to be tolerable, and admittedly at the moment need to go very carefully around a tooth that has recently been root filled - but am I just very slow indeed?

How long do you take?

Hm I mean I do floss daily and have done for many years. But it takes 1-2 minutes maximum.
If relevant every dentist and hygienist I've ever seen says my teeth/gums are immaculate and keep doing what I'm doing!

I don’t understand what you do for 8 minutes?
My hygienist did mine when I started going to her and put the floss into each gap and pulled it out again. So that’s what I do. 20 gaps or so, couple of seconds each. Barely two minutes.

SarahBeeney · 16/08/2019 19:09

It takes me about 1 minute to floss....I also watched the video on YouTube of the dentist showing how!

I don't fancy the water pik thing,I feel a bit squeamish about it.

My hygienist is brutal,he gets the flossing tape at the end and is much harsher than I am.
I really hate going to the hygienist but I think it's important.

I use the flossing handles, it takes me two minutes or thereabouts.

The Waterpik is great for if you have small gaps. I used to get the floss stuck a lot.

Daffodil2018 · 16/08/2019 19:21

I love flossing. I can do it in under 60 seconds though.

thoroclock · 16/08/2019 19:29

I never used to floss until I developed severe gum disease in my 40's and now I have to use the tepe brushes every night and see my hygienist every 3 months. I wish I had looked after my teeth and gums when younger.
So well done for being so thorough. But if you're worried about how long you spend doing it, I agree with the advice to go and see your hygienist so they can advise you, they're the experts!

I love that @RedSuitcase with you on the 0 minutes Grin (They're still white and shiny)

PriestessModwena · 16/08/2019 19:36

@Swedetalker They should offer gas & air by a nasal cannula for sure for that torture!

I got an electric flosser. I never flossed with the string stuff as don't like the feel of it, my gums have always been fine and I'm 32. But my teeth have moved recently and now I've bought the electric one. Think I'm going to need braces soon!
