Just that. Preferably something that means you are not so full you can jeep eating throughout the day.

Perhaps look for a mass gain shake from fitness stores. Try bulkpowders.

Paperyfish · 15/08/2019 22:48

My dad was given forti sip when couldn’t eat. Very calorific.

OhioOhioOhio · 15/08/2019 22:50

Forti sip. Thanks. Did your dad enjoy it? Or, is it more of a medicine?

I like Vanilla Complan

PastelPotential · 15/08/2019 22:55

It's like a milkshake drink, comes in a few flavours. Not wonderful, but not disgusting.

yummumto3girls · 15/08/2019 22:58

My daughter was on Fortisip to gain weight whilst unwell with anorexia. Very high fat, different flavours she would drink them.

Justmuddlingalong · 15/08/2019 23:01

A relative let tubs of ice cream melt and then drank it.

Veterinari · 15/08/2019 23:06

Fortisip and calogen. A dietician can prescribe them

whereisthebloodypostman · 15/08/2019 23:08

When my little brother got braces and cried because he was hungry and couldn't eat a Frijj chocolate brownie milkshake sorted him right out

I like using the nutri-bullet to make a shake with a banana, peanut butter, almond milk and cocoa (the cafe i’ve pinched the idea from uses raw cacao). It’s so delicious I can never stop drinking it, and I drain it in seconds. Sadly, I do not need to put weight on for medical reasons....

Wonderful advice. Thank you everyone.

Excellent idea. Don't be sad about not putting on weight for medical reasons!

Ps. It's not for me!

Deep pan stuffed crust with extra cheese Grin

Spudina · 15/08/2019 23:12

Complan is available in pharmacies and supermarkets. Also the Fortisip, fortijuice, forti something else that's a yogurt range. I usually have patients on prescriptions for those, but GPs won't prescribe them now there is a cheaper version (calgen or something like it?) I'd start off with Complan. Other ideas are porridge made with full fat milk and drizzled in maple syrup for breakfast, mash potato made with full fat milk and lots of cheese in it.

Tolleshunt · 15/08/2019 23:14

Sorry ohio, that was insensitive. I’m not actually hoping for a medical condition. Just conscious of my ever-expanding butt. I need to lose weight, but boy do I love my food! Try the shake, it’s bloody delicious!

Piehunter · 15/08/2019 23:15

I'm on ensure compact, 300+ calories in 125ml of liquid, so doesn't fill me up for too long. I do struggle to manage more than 2 and eat more than twice though. Or I have to drink less tea/coffee 😮 they're milkshake style, strawberry/vanilla/cafe latte/ banana. They're better than slimfast taste imo, fridge cold best!

Tolleshunt · 15/08/2019 23:16

Sorry, it was insensitive of me

Piehunter · 15/08/2019 23:17

It depends on the reason, so I have severe gastro issues and vomit from a full stomach, have a very restricted diet, and eating causes severe pain. So liquid calories are the only way for me- not porridge, fatty mash etc.

Walnutwhipster · 15/08/2019 23:18

Fortisio, fortified creme, scandi shakes, complan. There's absolutely loads. Do you have an nhs dietitian? If yes they can get companies to send you a tonne of samples then prescribe any that you like. There's even shots that are tiny and each are 300 calories. I have a feeding line now.

soloula · 15/08/2019 23:26

Could you have a pot of clotted cream or extra thick cream?

runoutofnamechanges · 15/08/2019 23:38

Having had to use prescribed nutritional supplements for myself, DS, DF, and DGM for different reasons (surgery, ASD related food issues, chemotherapy, dementia), I would say that none of the options are delicious but you can make them delicious. Complan milkshakes with a scoop of posh ice cream, Maxijul added to homemade lemonade, miracle berries to enhance the taste... Can you get a recommendation from a dietician on what type of supplement/replacement is most suitable? Then you can look at ways to make them palatable for the person that needs them, which is obviously very personal.

Tolles

Not insensitive. I do have humour!

My backside is evidence alone its not for me!

I make a milkshake out of chocolate nesquik (which is fortified with certain vitamins/minerals), whole milk, a chopped banana, and extra thick double cream. I have one or two of these a day. It's one of the only things I've found that hasn't become nauseating over time.

MonstranceClock · 15/08/2019 23:45

When my daughter was underweight, I used to make her banana, chocolate icecream and peanut butters milkshakes with fullfat milk.
