Not really an AIBU. But posting here for traffic.

How much do you spend when your DC are invited to birthday parties?

DS is 8 and doesn’t get invited to loads of parties and those he does we don’t always attend as he has autism and struggles so I’m not sure what the norm is. How much do you spend?

Is a fiver too little? A tenner?

I also have no idea what the boy is into so might just give him some money in a card! Is that ok?

Also prepping myself for when DD starts school and will probably be invited to loads in her first year 🤣£££

Between £5- £10 usually.

Curious2468 · 15/08/2019 18:31

£5-10 depending on how close we are to the child

Drogosnextwife · 15/08/2019 18:33

A tenner. For older kids I give a tenner, for younger ds friends I used to buy a present worth a tenner but I've just started giving them money now too. Don't see the point buying a present that I don't even know if they will like anymore.

Rayn · 15/08/2019 18:33

I tend to out a tenner in a card! Five seems too little and can't be bothered to hunt for presents!

PositiveVibez · 15/08/2019 18:39

£10, money or Amazon voucher.

Pipandmum · 15/08/2019 18:40

£10 in a card. Job done.

kitk · 15/08/2019 18:43

It helps at this age to get two sets for £10 from the works! I always had two in my cupboard just in case!

DownstairsMixUp · 15/08/2019 18:44

£5 for just casual school friends, £10 for closer friends.

Absoluteunit · 15/08/2019 18:51

I usually buy stuff from the 2 for £15 range at Argos and save the other present for the next party.

When we've been skint it's been a book and some sweets.

When my daughter had her party there was a range of gifts from I would estimate £3 or £4 to around £20!

About £10-£15

Character pjs for little ones is a go to for me

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/08/2019 10:07

Between £10 and £15, sometimes a little more if the parents are paying for an expensive activity type party.

Purpletigers · 16/08/2019 10:27

£10-15

formerbabe · 16/08/2019 10:43

Yes, between £5-£10

Stompythedinosaur · 16/08/2019 10:48

Between £5 and £10.

livingthegoodlife · 16/08/2019 10:51

About £5. I try to buy toys in the sale so "worth" more but only cost me £5.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 16/08/2019 10:58

£10 for family friends or one of DD's 'best friends'. £6-7 if it's a child she isn't that close to, otherwise it gets ridiculous as she's in Reception and there's a birthday party most weekends.

whirlwinds · 16/08/2019 10:59

£ 10 (more for close friends) is the norm for us personally. There is quite a few that seem to give £5 though as their norm which is fine, people give what they can afford.
