Baby's 1st passport

Sorry to post for traffic again!

I've applied and paid for our passports online, it's my babies 1st one. I lost mine so can't provide details from the expired passport.

I was just wandering, my baby's father is 'unknown'. I don't even know his parent's names never mind being able to get hold of identity documents like birth certificates.

As I was born after 1982 it means I have to provide grandparents birth certificates, will this be enough?

I mean I only have my mums will this be enough?

If you (and your parents) are British and hold British Pasports then you baby will be entetled through you. Baby's Dad's details do not need to be entered

RainOrSun · 14/08/2019 20:04

Might be simpler to renew yours first - mark it as lost on the forms.
Then apply for babies using your details. I'm assuming that if baby needs a passport, you do to?

Cheeserton · 14/08/2019 20:06

Call the advice line and talk it through with them. They're very good.

CharlesLeeRay · 14/08/2019 20:11

@RainOrSun that would mean paying and applying again.

@Cheeserton they said just my mums was enough but I'm just worried they'll be wrong and it will all get sent back. They say it proves my nationality, just a worrier.

CharlesLeeRay · 14/08/2019 20:13

@Cheeserton I'm aware I don't need baby's dads. I don't have a passport as it's lost, my question was would my mum's birth certificate be enough.

They do ask that provide grandparents details and passport numbers now if you were born past 1982. As far as I know you can just write unknown or no contact, I’ve heard of people doing that and it didn’t stop them getting the passport.

Cheeserton · 14/08/2019 20:20

The advice line know what they're saying. If they've said your mum's is adequate then it certainly will be. They work for the passport office.

dementedpixie · 14/08/2019 20:25

The fact you had a British passport shows you are a British citizen which is what you need to pass British citizenship to your child. Have you applied to get a new passport for yourself too?

Nixen · 14/08/2019 20:42

Why does your child need a passport if you don’t have one? Unlikely to be going on hols on their own

happycamper11 · 14/08/2019 20:48

Yours and your parents is enough, you just need to provide what you know and they can do the rest. They'll find your passport number, it would just be quicker if you had managed to provide it

happycamper11 · 14/08/2019 20:50

@Nixen she's applied for both passports just wasnt able to provide her details as she won't know them til hers arrives

CharlesLeeRay · 14/08/2019 21:05

@Nixen did you read my original post? Obviously not.

OP posts:
CharlesLeeRay · 14/08/2019 21:07

@dementedpixie yes applied for both online. Not going away till November so hopefully time shouldn't be an issue!

OP posts:
Nixen · 14/08/2019 21:11

@CharlesLeeRay I missed it in your post, no need to be snotty! It would have made more sense to apply for your new one first and then your babies one since you ‘don’t know who her dad is’ 🙄

CharlesLeeRay · 14/08/2019 21:26

@Nixen Apologies, I just get tired of people on here not reading posts. I don't have time to wait for passports to come seperately. I do know who her father is, it's just he hasn't acknowledged his daughter and won't speak to me so I cannot get the relevant information. He also refuses to accept paternity. Even if I could get that information I would still need my parents birth certificates.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 14/08/2019 21:42

I don't think you will even need the birth certificates if you've already had a passport. You will need a countersignature person to confirm your identity and your baby too

happycamper11 · 14/08/2019 21:57

@Nixen it isn't an issue whether she knows who the babies dad is or not . Her details
are plenty. As others have said the fact you have been issued a passport is enough. The good thing about applying online is that it only asks you what you need to provide as opposed to the paper form which leads you to believe you need all this extra. The website let you complete the application so they almost certainly don't need anymore. Is your application complete along with countersignatory?

dementedpixie · 14/08/2019 22:01

Previous posts on here suggests that online applications also ask you to provide extra info that isn't required

kitk · 14/08/2019 22:03

ExP stoke my passport when he left, then refused to give me his details when I applied for DD. I wrote to them explaining and they wanted my mum and grandmothers passport to prove citizenship. I had to pay to order copies of both

CharlesLeeRay · 14/08/2019 22:16

@happycamper11 yes, it's just asking me to send supporting documents for baby.

JamieFrasersSporran · 14/08/2019 22:31

Just to give some background, people born in the UK after 1982 are British only if they're born to a parent who is British or has settled status. Before 01/01/1983, anyone born in the UK was British regardless of their parents' status.

You've had a British passport yourself, which will show you were born in the UK. They should be able to find your record and as long as you provide your baby's full birth certificate (the one that names you as her mother) you should be ok.

If you didn't have a passport, then yes, birth certificates would be needed.

happycamper11 · 15/08/2019 07:09

You just need to send what you have and include a cover letter explaining the situation with your passport. (They can find that out themselves it's just easier/quicker to supply all the info you know)
