Sudden Hearing Loss

Just looking for reassurance!
I lost my hearing after a cold nearly 4 weeks ago. It's completely gone in my left ear and I have moderate hearing loss in my right. It started with really loud tinnitus then over the next few hours dizziness and vomiting. I went to urgent care and was seen by an ENT Dr that sent me home woth sudafed and eardrops.
A week later I saw another ENT that confirmed my hearing loss and put me on a course of steroids that I'm coming to the end of. I've had an MRI and bloodtests for autoimmune disorders and have been told that I will get the results at my next ENT appointment in 2 weeks time. They will not tell me anything over the phone.
My hearing hasn't improved, the tinnitus is absolutely unbearable by the evening. Having 2 DC's at home in the summer holidays means I can't just sit quietly which does help. Conversations are pointless as I'm missing most of what people are saying. I'm a real chatterbox so this is making me feel quite isolated.
I absolutely love my job but I work in a role that I can't do with this level of deafness. I'm just worried that it's never going to come back. All I have is google and from what I'm getting is that if my hearing hasn't returned after 2-3 weeks it not going to.
I can't help but feel annoyed by the 1st ENT. AIBU to think I would have had a better chance of recovery if he had given me steroids immediately?
Has anybody else had this? How long did it take to come back if it did? Please can anyone give me a bit of hope?? :)

Thanks for replying HugoSpritz. My ears have never made much wax and the ENT said they are totally clear. I went to a restaurant a couple of nights ago and I just couldn't keep up with anybody. How long did it take before you saw an improvement? Were you given steroids?

My mum had this and needed grommets. At 72! 😜 Made an immediate difference.

My mum had something similar and her GP was concerned she'd had a stroke (previous history) but scans were ok. She started using steroid nasal spray and has been fine since. The dizziness was on and off so it's hard to say how long it took to resolve but it was in the region of 2-3wks after starting the spray.

No one really figured out what was wrong so it's hard to say if the spray is what sorted it, but she has had various sinus and allergy problems incl scarring from sinus infections so for my mum anyway it could be allergy-related.

Good luck OP.

Thanks again for replying. I'm just feeling no improvement at all apart from the dizziness cleared up within a few days. Thats good to know @southbucks77. I suppose I'll just have to wait it out!
