I am a teacher, currently working in EYFS (FS1) and I LOVE IT!!!!

I hear so much negativity about our profession, and although I will be the first to admit it is no easy feat, I think it's important to share the great elements of the job, that only a career in education can bring.

Sometimes, because of the challenges, it can feel that there isn't a safe space for voicing positivity!

So... What do you teach? What do you love about being a teacher? AIBU to shout it from the rooftops? There isn't a job I would rather do, I would year my hair out in an office all day!

Yep, I taught secondary for 38 years and it was the only career for me, I loved the interaction with the students regardless of ability and behaviour. Such a sense of achievement when they achieved personal and academic goals.
What I didn’t love were the government demands and impositions put upon me. Spoilt it really.
I hope you have a long and happy career.

I'm a secondary school teacher and I really love my job ..... also really hate it at times too Grin

I think the main reason that I love my job so much is because I work in a really good school with fantastic colleagues who always support you and the children I teach are hilarious!

I've been teaching 11 years in a variety of (deprived area, challenging behaviour) schools. I came from an academic career, and was really bored, on a whim I spent a day in a primary school and I haven't looked back!

With teaching, every day is a buzz. The kids are brilliant despite the many challenges they face in their daily lives. They are really tricky, but you build relationships and make a proper impact on their outcomes. It's hard work, there's been so many times where I've been completely mentally and physically exhausted and then faced with a seemingly impossible task, and I've wanted to quit. But I can't think of anything else as stimulating and rewarding. I love it, there's nothing I'd rather do. We need the holidays though, you couldn't sustain that level of intensity and adrenaline for longer than a few weeks at a time. And neither can the kids, The curriculum now is so full yet doesn't even cover the skills they'll need for life. They need time to be kids.

Fare play to anyone out there who love the job they do.
I bought 2 boys up and told them on many occasions,if they find a job they love.
They will never do a days work in their lives.

Teaching is a great job. It's like being on a tight-rope - exhilarating whilst things are going well, increasingly difficult when they are not going so well and impossible once life starts chucking stuff at you.

Isn't that true of all jobs/ positions/ roles in life!

I loved it for 12 years. I'm glad to hear that there are so many enjoying what they're doing.
