To complain or just get on with it?

I ordered a new sofa to arrive today.
It was free delivery (any time between 8am or 6 pm)
Or choose a 4 hour window (I choose 2-6) for £12.95.
I work all day but put half a day to finish at 1.15pm
Enough time to get home.
Yesterday I get a text ...hi ...... your order will be delivered between 12-2 pm on etc etc
So I call them and they say yes that's when the drivers are in your area.
So why take £12.95 for a specific time slot?
Would you complain? Or just leave it as it's only £12?

Complain!

Flopdoodle · 13/08/2019 07:43

I'd phone and request they stick to the time you paid for as this is when you've arranged to be in. If they don't I'd complain.

GoJetterGirl · 13/08/2019 07:45

Complain!!

Fatted · 13/08/2019 07:45

If you have paid for the slot, complain. They have not delivered the service you have paid for.

MrsMozartMkII · 13/08/2019 07:45

Complain! Otherwise your sofa has cost an extra £12, which wasn't the deal.

youarenotkiddingme · 13/08/2019 07:46

Tell them no! You've paid between 2-6. If they insist on 12-2 then you will need the £12 back and x amount to cover the wages you'll lose.

Jeezoh · 13/08/2019 07:47

I’d complain, they need to either deliver at the time you paid for or refund you (assuming you can be get home for the time specified)

Funkyslippers · 13/08/2019 07:50

Sorry if I'm being thick but I don't see the problem. Surely by them narrowing the delivery time a bit this is a good thing? I wouldn't want to be waiting in all afternoon

Funkyslippers · 13/08/2019 07:51

Oh sorry ignore that. It's early. Yes, complain!

BarbaraofSeville · 13/08/2019 08:05

Ring them back and tell them that you won't be in until 1.45 or whatever and need the sofa delivering during the 2-6 slot that you have paid for.

Or the delivery people are welcome to wait outside your house until you get home as planned. They might be able to use the time to have their lunchbreak anyway.

MothralovesGojira · 13/08/2019 08:10

Yes, definitely complain and ask for delivery refund. Earlier in the summer I paid extra (£20) to pick a delivery day and was told by the courier company a few days later that my delivery didn't exist. I had been sold a day that the company didn't deliver to my area (they were only in our area 3 days out of every week). In order to get a day that was convenient I had to wait a further 2 weeks past my original delivery date.
I complained to the retailer and got a refund of my delivery charge plus 10% refund of my order.

ShatnersWig · 13/08/2019 08:13

MothralovesGojira I had that exact same issue with Currys a few years ago. Which is why I won't buy anything from them.

lavenderbluedilly · 13/08/2019 08:15

Ask for a refund of the £12.95, better in your pocket than theirs. I had something similar with Oak Furniture Land - paid an extra £39 to have furniture brought to room of my choice. They dumped it in the hall (DH didn’t realise). I phoned, and was offered either refund of £39 or the option of their driver coming back to move it to a different room.

PapaShango · 13/08/2019 08:32

Complain and make sure you get your delivery cost back.

I’ve had this several times, mostly with Asda. When my twins were in nicu, I would always get the 2-4pm slot as I used to leave at 1 to pick dd up from nursery and this have me enough time to get home. They would regularly come early. Sometimes I’d get a test at 1.05 saying they were outside. I complained every time and they refunded the delivery cost and eventually gave me £25 voucher.

NoSauce · 13/08/2019 08:36

It’s just a scam asking customers if they want a preferred time, charging for it and then totally ignoring it. A nice, easy way to make money.

Do complain and make sure you get a refund on the delivery slot cost.

steff13 · 13/08/2019 08:39

I'd complain. They need to either honor the original time, or refund your money.

BiggerBoat1 · 13/08/2019 08:43

Definitely complain.

Puppytooth · 13/08/2019 08:44

Of course complain! You have paid for a service which they haven’t fulfilled - what is there not to complain about!

GBroGal · 13/08/2019 09:07

I've stopped buying anything I can't carry myself from Curry's, etc. Instead, I've found a local independent who a) try to fix the appliance first - oven was fixed for £70 - and b) deliver, remove old appliance, install new one with no fuss (Curry's driver said "wrong type of hose for a washing machine and left me to get a plumber to do it).

When I totted up the slightly higher price the independent charges and compare it to Curry's "bargain" price plus delivery plus removal of old appliance - guess what: the independent had the best deal; plus friendly service and all on time, at a time to suit me.

RezCowgirl · 13/08/2019 09:15

Complain, you've paid for the specific time and you should have got that.

KUGA · 13/08/2019 09:27

Complain, you had an agreement that should be honoured.

Beautiful3 · 13/08/2019 09:28

Yes definitely complain.

Sooverthemill · 13/08/2019 09:30

If you have paid for 2-6 pm and have had confirmation at time of placing order they have to honour that. It's happened to me ( different store) and it's tough luck if they can't schedule it as you have paid. I would contact them and if not happy tweet or Facebook and kick up a stink
