To ask if it's supposed to hurt to take your mooncup out?

I'm trying to be more eco friendly blah blah so have bought myself a mooncup. Well actually it's a knockoff brand one but same thing.

Putting it in is fine as I can do the folds, but I can't take it out without being in so much pain that I'm literally shaking on the floor. I know I'm breaking the suction because (sorry TMI) i can hear the squelching noise. I'm coming up to month 4 of it and it isn't getting any better. Has anyone else experienced this and may be able to shed some light on what I'm doing wrong?

Has it got a hard rim on it? I didn't get on with the mooncup because of that
I can recommend si bell, v v soft

DameSquashalot · 12/08/2019 18:22

I did the first time. Thought it was never coming out! You can try squeezing it out and pulling as you squeeze, or reach in with your finger to break the seal.

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2019 18:23

No, it shouldn't hurt. You need to sort of squeeze it into shape, the way you do when you put it in. But it may also be that you need a different cup - smaller and/or softer. I have a mooncup that I rarely use because it's too big and stiff to be comfortable for me. I much prefer my Lunette.

Mine doesn't hurt at all...I have to squash the sides in as others have said to break the seal and then it comes out easily...good luck, hope you get it sorted. Have been using mooncups for ages now and find them so much better than tampons etc

Goldenphoenix · 12/08/2019 18:31

I kind of squash mine in half and bear down. It shouldn't hurt at all. Try squeezing it in half before pushing out

AdiosAdipose · 12/08/2019 18:37

I used one for 7 years with no issues then gradually it started to really hurt to remove. Turned out I have fibroids and they have made the whole process uncomfy and painful over the last year.

I switched to washable pads but I miss my mooncup so much.

Have you noticed any changes with your periods?

CoraPirbright · 12/08/2019 18:41

Nope I have never had a pain on removal. Perhaps try a different brand as suggested but beware of the really soft ones - I find (TMI Blush) that a bowel movement coming down knocks them out of true and makes them leak.

BeanBag7 · 12/08/2019 18:46

It definitely shouldnt hurt that much! I'm amazed you've persevered for 3 months.

DaisyDreaming · 12/08/2019 19:25

I find the firmer ones painful, softer ones are a bit harder to get open but much less painful to get out. It shouldn’t hurt but of course everyone is different. The springy rim on the mooncup looks painful to me!

Try a real one.

BlueAndYellowPurplePills · 12/08/2019 19:28

Are you wearing the correct cup for your shape?
The first one I brought on a whim and was horridly painful I then did the put a cup in it quiz and brought a recommended one and it’s brilliant.

Mine doesn't hurt at all UNLESS I let go too early and let it snap back into an open position very low down but still inside. That hurts like hell. You need to keep the sides folded in as you take it out, as @bridgetreilly says.

CastleCrasher · 12/08/2019 19:29

Definitely shouldn't hurt like that! A softer version like the dutchess cup might help, as will making sure you've properly broken the seal, and bear form slightly when removing. I slightly squeeze and rotate mine when removing, breaks the seal and makes it very easy to remove

RezCowgirl · 12/08/2019 19:36

It used to hurt when I first started to use it and I was pulling it out but then I started to bear down or push it out whilst pulling it out and no longer hurts.

zeezee3 · 12/08/2019 19:43

@Umidrk

Ewww, I have never used one of these and never will. Confused

Just couldn't!

Sorry you're suffering. Doesn't sound right though. Can you ask the doctor to examine you?

What is a knock-off one though?

Beaverdam · 12/08/2019 20:16

Getting in in and out hurt like hell. Its so hard and sharp i felt distraught.
