Does anyone know how to work out what child tax credits I would be entitled to if I alter my work hours?

I've recently been given a small payrise that means I'm no longer entitled to child tax credits.

I'm a single mum and now have to work for more than a week each month to pay for my child care.

I think that if I cut my hours to 4 days a week instead of 5 I'd actually be better off. Does anyone know how I can work this out.

I've asked the child tax credit people and they say I'd he better to work. This would actually be easier. But unfortunately it is the expensive option.

Can anyone help?

The most straightforward way is to work out how much less you would earn, then use one of the online calculators (turn2us or entitled to).

Bear in mind that unless your taxable income will be more than £2.5k less than you currently get, your tax credits won't change in the current financial year.

It is possible to work it out manually, but it's pretty complicated (I'm a benefits adviser who likes doing manual TC calculations, but usually the other way round, ie when income is rising, and even I think it's complicated!).

Thank you. Yes. It is very complicated!
