to think we’re all powerless

Since Jeffery Epstein’s death a couple of days ago, there have been many articles and people talking about him and his vile friends and what they’ve been accused of. Many women have bravely come forwards claiming that they’ve been raped or sexually assaulted by Prince Andrew, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton. All friends of Epstein and in some cases, the alleged rapes and assaults took place in one of Epstein’s homes.

This whole diary thing with apparent details of his friends activities with younger girls as ‘insurance’ is quite interesting also.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is, of course everyone deserves a fair trial and perhaps some of them would be found not-gulity. But that’s not really the point. The point is I feel that because of their wealth, race, power etc these type of men will always win, nearly always get away with raping anyone, let alone underage children and scare them into silence. It’s crazy most of these allegations are from the early-mid ‘00 aren’t they, so 15/20 years ago and only now are a lot of these women old and brave enough to speak out. It’s crazy.

YANBU. It seems to be getting increasingly dangerous being a woman not less.

Sadly YANBU. I do feel the me too movement changed a lot. What was seen as acceptable is no longer. However the very rich and powerful almost always get away with it. Very very depressing.

cloudynostalgia · 12/08/2019 08:49

Yeah exactly, the very wealthy and powerful aren’t affected anywhere near as much as they ought to be.

YABU. It’s the time delay not anything else. If someone came forward with physical evidence if abuse they’d be convicted the same as anyone. Unfortunately rape, like most crimes, are difficult to evidence years after the event.

@boggles

I’m not saying they should be all called guilty and sent to jail. I’m saying that it’s very unlikely they would be convicted as well they’re unlikely to be taken to trial but even if they were I think members of the royal family and former/current US presidents can afford lawyers which are undoubtedly very very expensive and also very very good. But also I’m thinking about how many other girls may have been raped but haven’t come forwards after being scared into submission as children? Not necessarily by those men but men similar to them.

I don’t think that being wealthy/famous necessarily has any effect. The reality is that no one would run a trail for a historic rape unless there was some kind of documentation of the rape or there were unusual circumstances. It’s just impossible to prove in most instances so it would be a waste of CPS resources to prosecute.

Fair enough @boggles.

We will never know the truth, because there will never be a trial. There will be a succession of women selling stories to the National Enquirer becaue it's the only way they will get their voice heard. Some of those stories will be untrue - like Carl Beech - and there has been so little press coverage about his lies.
