AiBU to not go A&E?

so basically about 4 weeks ago got severe ear ache and throat ache (suffer really badly with tonsillitis). i tried to ride it out with over counter medicines and sprays but nothing was working so eventually went to the Gp. She diagnosed tonsillitis and ear infection started me on penicillin for 10 days. but over the course of the last 4 weeks i have had a temperature that comes and goes with pain killers of about 38.5° i also have a ill child so spent a week in hospital with him so even though i haven't been well i haven't actually stopped. My husband is away with work atm but fast forward to yesterday i woke up with temp of 39.8° all day it stayed near about that not coming down less than 39.5° so i called our GP extened access and they were able to offer me and appointment today. When i went GP saw it and said tonsils have gone huge and infection worse. temperature has stayed in the 39° all day today. GP started on ciprofloxacin but said if temps get any higher i should go straight to A&e as she would be concerned about sepsis. however i have been in bed with my sick child and no family close by i havent been able to go A&e but my temp is now 39.8 and i feel rubbish dont know what to do. just looked in mirror and tonsils look disgusting Throat is in agony cant even stand due to temp. By the way i should add DS has lung condition required oxygen and is on NG fed so not like i can just leave him with anyone. DH had said he would try come back earlier than planned but not sure what to do in meantime. i am all dosed out on naproxen and cocodomol.

I suggest you call 111 who based on when my son 9 was that hot for 2 days will send an ambulance out. Take your child with you if needs be they will put a cot(bed) by the side of you I would expect. If your don't get treatment and it ends up being sepsis you could leave you child without a mother.

Kittypillar · 11/08/2019 23:03

Really hope you're on your way to hospital now OP Flowers I'm so sorry this is happening, it sounds awful!

Jent13c · 11/08/2019 23:08

Have you been peeing at all?

Having sepsis previously makes you more at risk, you need to be at hospital...at least until they check your heart rate and blood pressure. You have my every sympathy, completely understand not leaving your child with additional needs. But you need to be well before you can look after anyone, hopefully your husband wont be too long.

Hope you're ok Op. If you are not at the hospital yet please get yourself there. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

thaegumathteth · 12/08/2019 00:05

I hope you’re ok OP I had sepsis twice recently and the first time it happened was the middle of the night and rather than disturb anyone I waited until morning - that was a really really really bad decision so I definitely think you’re doing the right thing.

Make sure you mention sepsis to the doctors and tell them your history. It might well not be sepsis - do you have any other symptoms? But it could be Quincy throat or just god awful tonsil infection.

Take care

dollydaydream114 · 12/08/2019 00:06

Go to A&E, take your son and explain to the staff what your son's needs are. They will ensure you are both OK.

Bambamber · 12/08/2019 00:11

I would get checked out, they may need to rule out quinsy

Euclid · 12/08/2019 00:15

Dear OP take your child with you to A&E. They will know far more about his medical needs than you or your husband. Don't be stupid trying to find somebody to look after him if you go without him. Just take him with you. A hospital- what is your problem taking him there? You will both get the medical attention that you need.

Flibbertyjibbit · 12/08/2019 00:16

I hope you and DS are now at a&e. I'm sure they will look after both you and son.

Zeusthemoose · 12/08/2019 00:19

Hope your ok OP Flowers

notapizzaeater · 12/08/2019 00:27

Hope you at hospital now. Just in case can you show a friend / neighbour what to do so if you ever are in the same situation they could help till someone could take over ?

ohtheholidays · 12/08/2019 00:28

I hope your being seen at the hospital OP and I hope your DH is with you very soon Flowers

Sunflowers11 · 12/08/2019 00:35

111 in your case should be sending an Urgent Care Practitioner or OOH GP to you. 39.5 is extremely high. If you cannot face going to A&E please ring 111 back and explain you need a Home Visit because of your Disabled sleeping Child and because you are too unwell to come down to the hospital. Because of how short staffed we are, our GP's are having to cover a much wider area, which is why they will try fob you off. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks

ElstreeViaduct · 12/08/2019 10:02

I hope you got the help you needed OP.

onemorecakeplease · 12/08/2019 11:40
