To ask what you take on a plane if you’re an anxious and nauseous flyer?

Shamelessly posting here for traffic.

I’m a terrible flyer. I get very anxious about the fact I am essentially trapped for a few hours. I’m also scared that I’m going to get travel sick, and that I can’t get off the plane to make it stop - I’m therefore nervous about turbulence in case that brings on nausea 🙄 I took diazepam on my last flight and that really helped with all these worries, and I’ve got some again for this flight. It’s only for 2.5 hours and I know I’m being ridiculous!
I can’t be the only nervous flyer so what does everyone take in their bag with them to help? Or what do you do on board?

Stilnox or valium..works a charm.Didnt realise i had such a problem with flying on long-haul flights before DC as always totally exploited the minibar shots&wine with meals with nothing else to do but watch latest movies😂

Elastic bands on wrists, Olbas Oil and Extra strong Mints help with my travel sickness, but either medication from GP, or a couple of drinks help with my fear of flying.

Xanax (alprazolam)! It’s slightly more expensive than Valium (diazepam) and I find it works better. My GP prescribed both and said I could test them out. Diazepam made me feel calm but still “drugged” and fuzzy if that makes sense. Xanax worked like a dream and just made me feel like a relaxed version of myself (even during 8 hours of turbulence on a particularly rough flight), or sent me to sleep and I woke up feeling totally refreshed like at home.

You mention being worried about nausea, any chance you’re emetophobic? That’s exactly the reason I hate flying and the emet anxiety goes way above a normal fear of flying. I didn’t think there would be medication strong enough but Xanax is my best friend on flights now.

User3468793 I do think I have a form of emetephobia, I’m not anxious about being sick itself but I’m anxious about being sick in front of others, and/or not being to control the thing that is making me feel sick if that makes sense.

When you board can you ask for some extra sick bags and a water? It might give you some comfort that should you need them, they’re there.
