AIBU to point out that a big Lambrini in Iceland is now 1.25cl not 1.50cl?

The wrong audience here, lol, but I just noticed it today by accident. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but a bit sneaky as the price remains the same. Lambrini has also reduced the alcohol content. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but I noticed that by accident too.

Seems sensible. Cheap booze isn't making anyone's life better.

How did you notice these things by accident? Grin

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 11/08/2019 19:27

YABU to be this invested in Lambrini, I hope you're a troll there can be no other reasonable explanation for your post Grin

WeWantSweet · 11/08/2019 19:32

Haha, good question. To be clear, I do buy it, but noticed the reduced alcohol content some weeks ago by accident and today the 1.25cl bit.

My student self 15 years ago would be horrified! I used to pre load on cherry lambrini drunk out of a plastic pint glass. It’s like liquid Haribo.

I still feel a weird nostalgia for it but have resisted the temptation to buy a bottle for many years.

WeWantSweet · 11/08/2019 19:49

Haha, not a troll. I actually find perry a pleasant drink, though I do add cucumber slices to counter the sweetness. Translate it to a tipple you might like, if the alcohol content and liquid content was reduced with no mention, but the price stayed the same.

Nothing to add, only that I haven’t thought about Lambrini since about 2003. It’s not a dignified drink.

AIBU to point out that a big Lambrini in Iceland is now 1.25cl not 1.50cl?
Whatafackinliberty · 11/08/2019 19:51

Why not just blend some dog shite instead. Cheaper and would taste better.

EskewedBeef · 11/08/2019 19:52

It happens with all sorts of products. Production prices have gone up but customers don't want to pay more, so the manufacturers make the product smaller to maintain their profit margin.

DragonMamma · 11/08/2019 19:52

I genuinely didn’t think anybody drank it past university.

SpoooyGhost · 11/08/2019 19:54

I like a bit of lambrini too. Perry is easy to drink, sweet and cheap. It's about
6% isn't it? Not as strong as wine.

I want some now.

Crunchymum · 11/08/2019 19:55

Surely price point is a reason it sells?

Not everyone can afford poncy gin!!!

SpoooyGhost · 11/08/2019 19:58

Quite right @CrunchyMum. :) There's no need for snobbery, we can't all afford the same and we don't all like the same.

BoswellsBollocks · 11/08/2019 20:03

Lambrini brinks back happy memories of my first holiday with friends aged 17 in a caravan in Aberystwyth. We spent 5 days playing cards, eating cheese on toast and necking Lambrini from breakfast til bedtime.

Great days.

Flapjackninja · 11/08/2019 20:06

I'm curious to try the Parma Violet Lambrini Blush

EskewedBeef · 11/08/2019 20:08

How cheap is it?

WeWantSweet · 11/08/2019 20:14

Indeed. Whether via trendy gin flavours or Lambrini, if your destination is drunk the outcome is the same.

Cherry lambrini is the mixed fruit kopperberg of the 00s!!

I used to love telling people "it's not actually wine, it's perry!!" But I guess everyone knows that now....

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 11/08/2019 20:22

Who drinks this stuff? Why? It is vile stuff! I didn’t even think they made it still, haven’t seen it for years

Me and it can never be friends after the night we had together in my teens, even remembering makes me feel ill 🤢

BarbaraofSeville · 11/08/2019 20:23

I knew it was cheap but I didn't realise exactly how cheap it was Shock. A big bottle is Two Pounds Fifty in Tesco.

Lougle · 11/08/2019 20:30

I have to admit that I'm pretty exhausted (and teetotal, so alcohol isn't my subject for Mastermind), but I read your OP serveral times and ended up thinking "What's a lambrini? (Car?) Why would people be interested in the size of one in Iceland? It's not the most popular holiday destination..." Blush

WeWantSweet · 11/08/2019 20:30

It's, in effect, Babycham by another name, I think.

I like lambrini. I drink it because it's lowish alcohol, cheap and reasonably low in calories. I only buy the 75cl bottles though. A couple of bottles a week keep me under the recommended units of alcohol and are a nice little treat.
A lot of products are getting smaller now, presumably to avoid raising prices. Personally I think it's a good idea.

WeWantSweet · 11/08/2019 20:42

Agree, content reduction via stealth is a thing. If it's being rolled out to encompass sugar and salt content, then it's a good thing.

GruciusMalfoy · 11/08/2019 20:48

Bloody hell, Lambrini's a throwback for me! I think I remember the bottles used to be about £1.50.

HomeEdRocks18 · 11/08/2019 20:49

I like it but noticed the smaller bottle too. They now do a parma violets flavour which is delicious and moorish
