To want a replacement car seat

I was wondering if anyone could help. We’ve had to take our MC Axisfix back to M&P as the strap has become twisted and one side won’t tighten. We haven’t been very savvy about this and just accepted what they said which was that they couldn’t refund it, fine we need a car seat but they would need to send it to Maxi Cosi as they can open it up and find out what the problem with the strap is and fix if possible. Ok DC was screaming as we waited bloody ages so we accepted this and the loan of a car seat. They would only offer us the Joie Stages 0,1,2 car seat as a loan - none Isofix. I wasn’t happy with it not been Isofix but the whole thing was so stressful I just wanted to get out. Anyway on getting home and googling exactly what we’ve been given we’ve seen that the loan car seat has a Which Safety alert on it and a Don’t Buy. Obviously this is very distressing, I wasn’t happy that it wasn’t ISOFIX and now this. The latest which safety alert talks about front impact (which is most common) and high speeds, given I do a lot of motorway driving I found this quite alarming. Also thinking about it further I’m not sure I want a car seat that’s been taken apart this just doesn’t feel right - especially not when we’ve spent £350 on one. I also don’t want to be driving around with a loan one that has a safety alert on it. Where do I stand?!? Anyone had a similar experience. I’ve had a look at consumer rights gubbins and it seems to be I can ask for a replacement but they can offer you a repair. Surely it’s not safe to go messing around with a car seat. How do we know it’s been put back together properly, it’s not going to be crash tested is it again is it?!?

Sorry op. Didn't mean to high jack your thread. I would get further advice from Trading standards as a PP said. But it really depends how long you have had it and if the twisting of the straps is in anyway user error. I had the maxi Cosi seat and isofix base btw. Are you sure you can't find a YouTube video on how to sort the straps? I used help like that for removing cover etc.

As she’s over 15kg (and age 4) she would be better off using the seat as a high backed booster.

If you have only one child just put him in from the inside. As in, get in the back of the car on the other side. The belt will not be in the way.

The joie seats are actually really good. I got the spin, which is isofix however I considered the stages as well.

Trading standards. I've had appalling service from m&p in the past and only got my issue (fault on buggy comprising its safely) sorted through trading standards.

*compromising ...bloody typos

Yes you put child in seat belt in child.
Strap In the seat tightly each time. This is how we were shown in m&p and mothercare.. However mothercare noticed when it was ff that due to shape of my car seats it wasn't as tight as should be. So opted for a britax..cant remember the model now.

Belted is no less safer than isofix..isofix is just easier.

Also the belt is twisted due to you or your dh twisting it.. If it wasn't like it before buying.
We had a mothercare one that kept doing this with my eldest.. It was only ever dh that managed to twist it somehow..
As it was someone went into the back of me so the seat was replaced anyway.

@BeanBag7 I wanted to know if a) anyone had any experience of this car seat and b) if anyone had ever had to return a faulty car seat especially to M&P and what happened in the situ/what the outcome was and if I’m being crazy to expect a replacement for a £300 car seat that’s supposed to last until the age of 4 but hasn’t even lasted a year!!!

No it’s certainly not what I would have chosen weirdly my child the most precious thing to me and doing the possibly one of the most riskiest every day things we do as humans - driving I want my child to be as safe as I could possibly afford them to be. We have to make two journeys a day quite lengthy in rush hour on busy motorways and A roads so if I Google a random car seat for my baby which I’ve been palmed off with and have been given no opportunity to research and when I do I see that it’s safety is very much up for debate, damn right I’m going to question this!!

@CrispSandwiches19 it’s twisted in the back - we can’t get to that?! the car seat specialist said the slackening and the twisting were linked.

@Surfskatefamily @NotDoris tried going in the other side completely pain in the arse and god knows what my back will be like after 2 weeks but I can almost get him to climb into it himself this way!
