To go and cut the wires to next doors house alarm

Arghh I am losing the plot here, it's like torture.

It has been cheeping every second since 4pm. I assume a fault, as it's not properly ringing, just cheeping like an enormous canary is stuck in the house. Doors and windows all look secure.

I've been round and no one is there, I haven't seen anyone actually for a week or so, hopefully they're not on holiday.

We're attached, I can hear it over the TV turned up very loud.

Any suggestions of what I can do, I need a good night's sleep to get over a shit week 😬.

I thought alarms legally had to cut off after a short time? Must be an old one.

HappyHammy · 10/08/2019 21:28

I would.call 101 and.ask.their.advixe. can you contact.the.ndn at all. Do you have their mobile or would any of the.other.neighbours.

QuercusRose · 10/08/2019 21:29

You might find it has a battery backup so it might keep going anyway (which is exactly what out old one did when we tried to disconnect it).

Futureplanning · 10/08/2019 21:32

No contact details unfortunately, they haven't lived there very long. I don't even know their full names.

Yes I think they're meant to stop ringing after 20 minutes, but this is cheeping so perhaps a fault?

I will give it until 11 then see what 101 say.

Maybe the backup battery has gone and needs replacing.

MatildaTheCat · 10/08/2019 21:33

If you cut the wires it may ring in perpetuity.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 10/08/2019 21:36

Maybe the neighbours the other side know their contact details?

LLapT0p962 · 10/08/2019 21:49

Is there a burglar alarm light flashing ?

Or

It could be the fire alarms are out of battery

There was a UK national power grid issue 9 may 4 to 5 pm
This may have triggered the loss of power ?

I've just been over to the other side and they have no way of contacting them either.

I've kept the dc up later in the hope they'll be so tired, they can just sleep through it.

The poor cats are hating it too.

I feel a bit dramatic about it, so apologies but I've been looking forward to a relaxing weekend all week, this is tipping me over the edge.

There's no light flashing but when standing outside, it does seem to be coming from the box.

Pretty sure we weren't affected by the power outage here.

Sounds like fire alarm with low battery. Last house I lived in had one that did similar.

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 10/08/2019 21:58

101 will only have contact details if they've updated them.

Futureplanning · 10/08/2019 22:08

101 weren't interested and just said they don't deal with house alarms, unless we have seen evidence of an intruder.

A long night ahead then.

I only managed to wait until now, not quite 11pm!

Contact previous owner to see if they know their name, look on electoral register or see if land registry have updated the ownership. Then hunt them on social media! Alternatively buy noise cancelling headphones!

MidniteScribbler · 11/08/2019 01:37

Could you post on any local pages on Facebook to see if anyone knows them, or they may see it themselves. I did that one night at about 2am when my neighbours went away and their kids threw a massive party. They saw the message on the page, recognised their house, rang the kids and tore strips off them and it went quiet. They were very apologetic when they got back.

Futureplanning · 11/08/2019 09:25

Thank you for your ideas last night. The alarm finally stopped at 3:30am hallelujah!

Fingers crossed it doesn't start up again, as I'm pretty sure they're away.
