Shingles in pregnancy

I know I will need to ring the doctors but at 7.30 on a Saturday I can’t really do much now so just wondering if anyone can offer any advice in the interim.

I have had an outbreak of shingles on my little finger I am quite prone to getting it and have had it several times in my life time starting from being about 16 but haven’t had it since about feb this year. Not always gone to the doctors as I know how to manage my symptoms so don’t see the need for taking an appointment when I know how I can deal with it. But I am now pregnant (23 weeks)

Rang the doctors she said nothing much that can be done as it’s a small site and that was that. This was about 2 weeks ago and I have just got changed into my pjs and found I have another cluster of shingles on the back of my leg.

Is there anything I can do or should ask for from my doctors? I had a midwife appointment on Thursday and she was baffled when I told her I had had shingles and rang for advice and she said I should ask for anti viral medication but the doctor told me at the time that as it’s a small site then she wouldn’t prescribe anything apart from a cream with a certain ingredient (forgot what this is now)

There’s no aibu here just posting as there’s a lot of traffic here. The midwife may have answered my question already but just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and can offer any advice

TIA

I would contact the doctor or out of hours again and ask about Shingles and pregnancy. I believe you can take antivirals when pregnant as I took them when there was a possibility I was pregnant and had shingles. The rash was near my eye so they wanted to be sure it didn’t affect the nerves in that area.

See the GP when you can. I had shingles at 39wks in my first pregnancy. They gave me aciclovir cream which helped. Take it as easy as you can, the recovery can be almost as brutal as the outbreak.

im not overly concerned as the doctor and midwife said it won’t harm my unborn baby but my hand is now tingling like it’s going to flair up there too so I think a call to 101 won’t go a miss.
Guess I’m reluctant to ring because I’m tired as it is and can’t be bothered dragging my ass down to a and e for a lengthy visit.

Had shingles when I was pregnant and it wasn’t pleasant. I got signed off work and spent a few weeks watching box sets and trying not to think about my tingling welts!!! My consultant said not to worry about it

It’s so unsightly isn’t it! I didn’t want to tell my team leader about it but was forced to as there is another pregnant lady in my office. I already feel like my body had been taken over by my baby due to all the changes I’m experiencing and this just adds insult to injury ha ha

I was 19 weeks when I had shingles.

Was found too late for the anti virals.

Calamine and cold towels were a saviour (also was signed off with for 4 weeks)
