AIBU to think about plastic surgery

I had a small plastic surgery operation around 15 years ago to remove growths on my face. I almost died during the operation lost all my blood needed a major transfusion. I now have more growths on my face worst than last time. Also on my back and chest. I’m said I would never have another operation, but recently I have been very depressed in pain all the time (now on real nerve pain killers) so starting to think about having another operating to remove the growths. They are all begine tumours. There is a 80% chance. I would not survive any operation. Am I wrong in thinking about starting to long process of seeing consultants and specialist to ask the question.

I can't see anyone agreeing to operate on you if there's an 80 per cent chance you won't survive. What a shit situation.

I don't think they would do surgery you were so unlikely to survive? Surely?

80% would be too much for me I'm afraid. I can understand your distress though. Can you research latest treatments and ask to be referred to a good specialist? Things might have improved since you last had the op 15 years ago.

If that is genuinely the level of risk I can’t see any surgeon agreeing.

However your best bet is to discuss it with your medical team.

The first meeting with the plastics team is next week and I honestly don’t know what to do. I have so many questions and lots I’ve not thought of yet.

I really want the surgery but so scared of the pain and not waking up.

Why is there an 80% chance? Surely theyd refuse you surgery if you’re that high risk.

Irmtabdue to the fact when they cut the area I bleed a bot it’s removal of a begine tumour m full of blood vessels.

Ah I see. Is it not likely they’ll refuse? Or will the technique have advanced since then?

It will have advanced a lot since my last time. I can only ask the question. I’m seeing on of the top person in the uk who’s a specialist in this area.

There is no harm in asking what the situation is now but be prepared to be told no.
