DCs driven wild by the wind...

AIBU to ask if anyone else’s beloved offspring have gone totally loopy today? Please tell me they have.....
We are on UK holiday, south coast & it’s exceedingly windy. My 2 DS have totally lost the plot - winding each other up (a billion times more than normal), trying to hurt/kill them selves on playground equipment (a billion times more than usual), doing random things, like licking a picture of ice cream on the floor/closing eyes whilst walking very close to a lake and nearly falling in, and unnecessary crying/whinging (a billion times more than usual). I know we are on holiday & one ds has his birthday in a few days so excitement levels are high but seriously..... please tell me of your DCs crazed wind antics & reassure me that when the wind dies down they will return to the children who are mostly (well kind of...) well behaved & nice to be around.

My mum was a teacher. She used to hate windy playtimes, said it drove them wild. I did read up on it once, I think it's to do with low air pressure. But I'm sure that birthdays and holidays, a break in routine and excitement probably helps too!!!
Have a lovely holiday. Hopefully it will soon be bedtime for them!

Siameasy · 10/08/2019 18:47

Yes my DD is like this and I too am hugely unsettled by it. It gets inside my head

Floridasunset · 10/08/2019 18:50

Mine have been horrors today so I'm glad you have given me an excuse for their wild behaviour!
I couldn't handle anymore and they were in bed by 5.30.

Hope they settle down for the rest of your holiday OP

Primary school teacher here, I dread windy days. The wind makes them wild. You're not imagining it and once it dies down you can hopefully get on and have a lovely holiday!

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 10/08/2019 19:01

Can confirm it has the same affect on puppies. Mine has been a loon today!

Nomoremilk · 10/08/2019 19:05

I took my toddler twins to the park today and every time a gust of wind blew in their face they went nuts and started screaming laughing and running around getting to escape the park.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 10/08/2019 19:06

Yes. Crazy children. Roll on bed time

Coulddowithanap · 10/08/2019 19:45

Mine seem extra wild today too. Someone actually mentioned it was because of the wind!

seeyounexttime · 10/08/2019 19:53

To echo PPs it's a commonly observed phenomenon amongst primary teachers. I once had an important observed lesson during a gale, it was hellish.

mamansnet · 10/08/2019 20:19

My MIL said a couple of years ago that it was the wind making DS so unsettled st night and all day. I was veryHmmand put it down to her being not normal of the same culture as me.

Today and yesterday DS has been a bit loopy. I really hate to admit it, but...

she may have been on to something

Siameasy · 10/08/2019 21:02

My little cat has been scared today too ❤️

RadicalFern · 10/08/2019 21:02

Wind absolutely does make children crazy. And cats.

suzuki650 · 10/08/2019 21:15

Horses 🐴 & children always go loopy on a windy day

yesthatstheone · 10/08/2019 21:42

God yes! How strange!

BillywilliamV · 10/08/2019 21:44

Our kitten has been oddly quiet today though!

Ikeameatballs · 10/08/2019 21:45

My mum was a TA. Always said that a windy break time was guaranteed to make the kids hyper.

Happyhouralways · 10/08/2019 21:55

Fantastic news... sorry others have experienced the same phenomenon but at least when the wind dies down I’ll hopefully have a more enjoyable holiday!
We also had dogs that went mad in the wind too - extra rabbit chasing & no recall.
DH thinks it might be a sensory thing... might agree a bit (for once!) as wind kind of blocks & enhances senses at same time Hmm
Anyhow they are now fast asleep, I’ve had a few gins & off to bed myself. Thanks again lovelies of MN xx

Even secondary school kids seem to lose the plot a bit on a windy day. Then again our school leaks and has badly fitting windows so we spend the lesson catching paper flying across the room 😂
