To think that this Rainbow leader should be asked to step down?

My friend's daughter is a Rainbow Guide. She recently attended an evening activity with her pack which took place at a local park where there are no public toilets and lasted for 1.5hrs. The leader took a potty for the girls to use in case they were desperate for the loo. Towards the end of the activity the leader then asked all the girls if any of them needed a wee. Of course several of the girls decided they did even though none of them had mentioned that they needed to go beforehand. They then used the potty one after the other and the leader did not wipe or clean the potty between uses. Also some of the girls were told to go with the young leader (age 14/15) to 'try out' a shee-wee.

My friend was horrified when her daughter told her this and has since raised it as a concern with the district commissioner. She does not feel that it has been taken very seriously even though there are other adult helpers there who can verify the story. I was really shocked when she told me and feel that the leader should be asked to step down. Or AIBU?

All a bit odd. When either of my dds has been out in the woods/park/somewhere else outdoors with rainbows (so, fairly often); they all just go before they set off. No need for potties/shewees whatever else for an hour and a half outside.

We wouldn’t do this for our beaver group. We would ask them to use the toilet before they left the hall as most wouldn’t need to go again for 1.5 hours. If they did then I’m sure our leaders would find a descreet bush. They aren’t all boys, there are a few girls.

The potty idea sounds gross and babyish. They aren’t toddlers.

Before you complain volunteer.

Stop pearl clutching dear it really isn't nice.

You have 3rd or 4th hand information from an unreliable source. Yes I do think children ages 4-6 are unreliable witnesses.

My dd once told her dad she had been bungee jumping with my scouts- she'd actually been on a bungee run inflatable, she was 8.

I'd bet any money that if she did have a potty with her it was for emergencies and then once one child announced they were desperate and used it all of a sudden a couple more did.

The only concerning bit if it happened is that the young leader who took the children to use a sheewee or bush by herself was put in a vulnerable position - no-one should be alone with children in a Rainbows setting, let alone while they are toileting.

I'd be happy my dd didn't piss herself. Good preparation for brownie camp id say

I don’t really see it’s a problem, although i would just expect my DD if a Rainbow age to have a ‘tree wee’.
My view is that she’s a volunteer, not necessarily any kind of childcare specialist and if there is an issue, perhaps some additional training can be arranged. She doesn’t need to be sacked. Volunteers are very hard to come by.

It’s ok, OP has kindly volunteered to take over and show everyone how it should be done Hmm
