Fine in Durham but parts of teesside and Tyne and Wear have been affected.

RamblingFar · 09/08/2019 20:15

Northampton (Upton) lost power for about an hour.

FaFoutis · 09/08/2019 20:23

My DH was supposed to be on that train too MoreCuddles.
First one tomorrow is 6.15am - that might get yours back in time for fat club.
The hotels in London are getting full. I hope everyone gets home or a place to stay.

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2019 20:26

My sky didn’t work for a while.

😱

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 09/08/2019 20:27

Please don't call it an outage. It's a power cut.

SpeckledyHen · 09/08/2019 20:28

Son just arrived home in Berkshire from Paddington Station 🚉 with no problems .

TooManyPaws · 09/08/2019 20:29

No cut to the internet here in Fife as that was all I was using most of the day except for the kettle intermittently.

Deelish75 · 09/08/2019 20:30

We had no power between 5-5.30, in North Kent.

bouncingraindrops · 09/08/2019 20:31

That's what an outage is 🤷🏻‍♀️

I clicked on the thread because I wondered what a power outrage was.

No power cuts here. We have a backup generator so not too bothered if we do.

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2019 20:32

What wrong with outage?

FrenchyQ · 09/08/2019 20:38

Ours went off for about half an hour earlier this evening, we're in Buckinghamshire

Justanotherlurker · 09/08/2019 20:39

What wrong with outage?

Nothing, it's friday nights and the pedants have been on the wine early

They are furiously writing the BBC in green ink, so don't expect an answer

What wrong with outage?

Nothing, if hideous Americanisms don't bother you.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 09/08/2019 20:41

Yes, NE here, whole of north Newcastle is out, including Newcastle Airport, my postcode was out as well as others towns near us, it was simply a domino effect.

MoveOnTheCards · 09/08/2019 20:41

Trains are rumoured to be starting again soon-ish on the lines into Kings Cross 🤞

KateUrrer · 09/08/2019 20:42

Power cut sounds far more normal to me.

Stig Abell and the young things on the BBC web news be damned!

MissConductUS · 09/08/2019 20:45

It's all good in New York. Smile

How strange the Cambridge English Dictionary doesn't identify it as such.

Seemed that a Gas powered station at Little Barford near Bedford tripped out and took a windfarm or two with it this caused the mains frequency to go low, below the nomiunal 50 hertz, that is and the system sort of protected itself.

Some have speculted that it was a test for the days post brexist when power outages will be the new nomal;(

Excellent site here shows whats being used and where its coming from.

OublietteBravo · 09/08/2019 20:47

We lost power briefly at about 5pm. Long enough to have to reset the cooker and microwave clock, but not long enough to have to do the same for my Lumie alarm clock. I’m in Bedfordshire. Our local power station (Little Barford - just outside St Neots) is thought to be one of the ones that failed, triggering the whole event.

Bunnybigears · 09/08/2019 20:47

I'm in the North East and absolutely fine. I would quite enjoy a power cut it would mean DH cant spend our child free evening playing on the computer.

petbear · 09/08/2019 20:51

It's all round us - but seems to have skipped our village. Lucky I guess.

Hope everyone is back on soon!

QuckTheDuck · 09/08/2019 21:08

@justaboy - that site looks interesting. any bits to watch? Would love to know how to interpret what I am seeing?

GabsAlot · 09/08/2019 21:19
